    Some Implications of a Passage in Plato's "Republic".M. B. Foster - 1936 - Philosophy 11 (43):301 - 308.
In Book VII, p. 520, Socrates describes the arguments by which the philosophers must be induced to “return to the cave,” that is to say, to resume the practical business of politics from which they have escaped into the better life of contemplation. They must be shown that this sacrifice is a debt which they owe to the city in return for the opportunity which it has afforded them of becoming philosophers. “Will our pupils,"1 he continues, “when they hear this, (...)

    Programme for Adolescents in Foster Care: Adolescents' Participation.B. Radojevic & M. Mitić - 2005 - Global Bioethics 18 (1):165-180.
The program provides psycho-social support to foster adolescents during both their placement in foster families and in transitional period of leaving care, until they manage to cope with independent living. It is concieved as a direct answer to the needs of young people disturbed by the insecure patterns of attachment, who needed an opportunity to explore and modify negative experiences and acquire more successful models on how to build and maintain relationships, how to integrate the past, develop self-esteem (...)

© 2016 Regents of the University of California. The Review summarizes much of particle physics and cosmology. Using data from previous editions, plus 3,062 new measurements from 721 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons and the recently discovered Higgs boson, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons. We summarize searches for hypothetical particles such as supersymmetric particles, heavy bosons, axions, dark photons, etc. All the particle properties and search limits are listed in Summary Tables. We also give numerous (...)

    Quality care--commonplace or chimera.B. L. Donald & R. M. Southern - 1978 - Journal of Medical Ethics 4 (4):186-194.
Publicity for (and laterly increased economic stringency which makes more likely), failures of care in the NHS engender concern for care quality while its assurance remains the subject of a fragmented and unhelpful literature. A selective attempt is made to examine some underlying principles by posing and answering three questions. What is the quality of care? What basic principles must be followed in defining `standards'? How then may quality be assured? Any definition of care must be multi-faceted and in common (...)

Maestri-Banks & Members of the Breaking the Boundaries Collective - 2024 - Ethics and Social Welfare 18 (1):94-106.
This paper argues that professionals who make boundary-related decisions should be guided by relationship-based practice. In our roles as service users and professionals, drawing from our lived experiences of professional relationships, we argue we need to move away from distance-based practice. This includes understanding the boundary stories and narratives that exist for all of us – including the people we support, other professionals, as well as the organisations and systems within which we work. When we are dealing with professional boundary (...)

Coordination and expertise foster legal textualism.Ivar R. Hannikainen, Kevin P. Tobia, Guilherme da F. C. F. de Almeida, N. Struchiner, Markus Kneer, P. Bystranowski, V. Dranseika, N. Sundvall & Tomasz Zuradzki - 2022 - Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America 119 (44):e2206531119.
A cross-cultural survey experiment revealed a dominant tendency to rely on a rule’s letter over its spirit when deciding which behaviors violate the rule. This tendency varied markedly across (k = 15) countries, owing to variation in the impact of moral appraisals on judgments of rule violation. Compared with laypeople, legal experts were more inclined to disregard their moral evaluations of the acts altogether and consequently exhibited stronger textualist tendencies. Finally, we evaluated a plausible mechanism for the emergence of textualism: (...)

Information needs and development of a question prompt sheet for upper extremity vascularized composite allotransplantation: A mixed methods study.Jessica Gacki-Smith, Brianna R. Kuramitsu, Max Downey, Karen B. Vanterpool, Michelle J. Nordstrom, Michelle Luken, Tiffany Riggleman, Withney Altema, Shannon Fichter, Carisa M. Cooney, Greg A. Dumanian, Sally E. Jensen, Gerald Brandacher, Scott Tintle, Macey Levan & Elisa J. Gordon - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
BackgroundPeople with upper extremity amputations report receiving insufficient information about treatment options. Furthermore, patients commonly report not knowing what questions to ask providers. A question prompt sheet, or list of questions, can support patient-centered care by empowering patients to ask questions important to them, promoting patient-provider communication, and increasing patient knowledge. This study assessed information needs among people with UE amputations about UE vascularized composite allotransplantation and developed a UE VCA-QPS.MethodsThis multi-site, cross-sectional, mixed-methods study involved in-depth and semi-structured interviews with (...)
