  1. On the directional Lambek calculus.Wojciech Zielonka - 2010 - Logic Journal of the IGPL 18 (3):403-421.
The article presents a calculus of syntactic types which differs from the calculi L and NL of J. Lambek in that, in its Gentzen-like form, sequent antecedents are neither strings nor phrase structures but functor-argument structures. The product-free part of the calculus is shown to be equivalent to the system AB due to Ajdukiewicz and Bar-Hillel. However, if the empty sequent antecedent is admitted, the resulting product-free calculus is not finitely cut-rule axiomatizable.

  • Residuation, structural rules and context freeness.Gerhard Jäger - 2004 - Journal of Logic, Language and Information 13 (1):47-59.
The article presents proofs of the context freeness of a family of typelogical grammars, namely all grammars that are based on a uni- ormultimodal logic of pure residuation, possibly enriched with thestructural rules of Permutation and Expansion for binary modes.

  • A tale of four grammars.Claudia Casadio & Joachim Lambek - 2002 - Studia Logica 71 (3):315-329.
In this paper we consider the relations existing between four deductive systems that have been called categorial grammars and have relevant connections with linguistic investigations: the syntactic calculus, bilinear logic, compact bilinear logic and Curry''s semantic calculus.

  • Type Logics and Pregroups.Wojciech Buszkowski - 2007 - Studia Logica 87 (2-3):145-169.
We discuss the logic of pregroups, introduced by Lambek [34], and its connections with other type logics and formal grammars. The paper contains some new ideas and results: the cut-elimination theorem and a normalization theorem for an extended system of this logic, its P-TIME decidability, its interpretation in L1, and a general construction of (preordered) bilinear algebras and pregroups whose universe is an arbitrary monoid.

  • Extending Lambek grammars to basic categorial grammars.Wojciech Buszkowski - 1996 - Journal of Logic, Language and Information 5 (3-4):279-295.
Pentus (1992) proves the equivalence of LCG's and CFG's, and CFG's are equivalent to BCG's by the Gaifman theorem (Bar-Hillel et al., 1960). This paper provides a procedure to extend any LCG to an equivalent BCG by affixing new types to the lexicon; a procedure of that kind was proposed as early, as Cohen (1967), but it was deficient (Buszkowski, 1985). We use a modification of Pentus' proof and a new proof of the Gaifman theorem on the basis of the (...)

  • On the Complexity of Nonassociative Lambek Calculus with Unit.Maria Bulińska - 2009 - Studia Logica 93 (1):1-14.
Nonassociative Lambek Calculus (NL) is a syntactic calculus of types introduced by Lambek [8]. The polynomial time decidability of NL was established by de Groote and Lamarche [4]. Buszkowski [3] showed that systems of NL with finitely many assumptions are decidable in polynomial time and generate context-free languages; actually the P-TIME complexity is established for the consequence relation of NL. Adapting the method of Buszkowski [3] we prove an analogous result for Nonassociative Lambek Calculus with unit (NL1). Moreover, we show (...)
