Abstract

Aron: “After having been very close during our school years we had a falling out. We got along very well with Simone de Beauvoir; however, with a few exceptions, during the last thirty years we've had fundamentally different political positions. Sartre remained profoundly a moralist. He had great difficulty accepting political positions that were unacceptable within his philosophy…. I saw him a number of times during the last thirty years. The first time, I was in favor of Algerian independence. We were thus on the same side, but we met quite by accident. He greeted me, as we used to do during our youth, with ‘Bonjour, mon petit camaradel’ I responded, not without some emotion, ‘What a number of absurdities we have told in the last few years….’
