The effect of different chemical agents on sucker control, yield and quality of flue-cured tobacco

The effect of different chemical agents on sucker control, yield and quality of flue-cured tobacco. EA :The influence of some chemical agents with different activity on sucker control, yield and quality was investigated. In the period from 1987 to 1989 the exact field experiments were set up according to block methods. Treatments in the experiment were as follows : Ost 6% + Stomp 1, 5% ; Stomp 1, 5% + Stomp 1, 5% ; Ost 6% + Prime 1, 35% ; Prime 1, 35% - one spraying ; Ost super - one spraying ; Ost super 6% + Ost super 6% and Ost 6% + MH- 30. It is necessary to remark that light rain followed four hours after spraying with Off-shoot super in 1989. In 1988 significantly large number of suckers and heavier weight of suckers was found on one application of Prime treatment, while next year the same happend with one and twice applied Off-shoot super. In first two years of investigation only a tendency of higher yield was found on treatment where MH-30 was applied (1987 for 8-9% ; 1988 for 2-10%). In 1989 significantly lower yield was established by treatments where Off-shoot super was applied once and twice. In comparison with the highest yield treatment (Prime - one spraying) lower yield was found for 32% and 25%, respectively. Visually estimated quality differences of tobacco leaves and content of nicotine in middle leaf between treatments were not significant in this investigation. In the case of reducing sugars differences between treatments were obtained only in 1989. That year the maximum content of reducing sugars was obtained by treatments Ost 6% + MH-30, followed by Ost 6% + Prime 1, 35%, and the lowest value by treatments with Off-shoot super.
