1 In his enthusiasm for this sort of exemplification the author occasionally goes too far: no Linear B specialist would now read da-ma-te as δαμαστ⋯ς, since ā has not become ē in Mycenaean, or pa-si as β⋯σις or β⋯σιν since these words would have been written with a labiovelar.
