Abstract

In Begriffsschrift (1879) and Grundgesetze der Arithmethik (1893), Frege expounds a finite type theory which can be presented as a categorial grammar. The theory rests upon two distinctions: between complete and incomplete expressions and between different levels of incomplete expression. I call incomplete expressions functors, belonging to functorial categories; complete expressions belong to basic categories.
