Why? Snobbery, plain and simple. Were not the cubists derided? And Dada? Was it not mocked as not being "art"? People with fossilized minds refuse to admit new members to the art club. They get old and die. Things change.

It really does boil down to that. When enough ossified minds die, the definition of art and the membership of the art club changes.
