About me
My Areas of Interest: Being a student of philosophy, I am mainly interested in Meta-philosophy (to talk about the nature of philosophy), Socio-educational Philosophy, Philosophy of Mind, Logic and Literature as well. I have started a group of pages that reflect my area of interest in Philosophy. Major Interest: The Positive Philosophy is an integrated approach to the real nature of philosophy and its application to solve social problems .Basically it is a meta-philosophical discussion about the research methodology of philosophy and we also include Applied Philosophy & Socio-political Philosophy in this. We can find the meaning, importance and a collection of my articles related to Positive Philosophy. Philosophical Mind Studies is an expression of my research. I have posted summaries of my presented articles and written papers and it also includes a short Glossary of Philosophy of Mind (it defines the terms I used in my research work). Indian Psychology: “Indian Psychology is an approach to psychology based on the Indian ethos, the characteristic spirit of the Indian civilization. One could also say that is psychology rooted in Indian Philosophy, Yoga and their life-affirming spirituality.” This page includes Internet Sources, Books details, collected articles & relevant to know more about Indian Psychology. Others: A Class-Room Introduction to Logic is a collection of class-notes which I prepared for the students of M.A. and Diploma-in-Reasoning including a Definitional Dictionary of Logic. Philosophy in India News is an attempt to provide all information about philosophy in India viz. seminars, conferences and other research opportunities. This page is very useful for philosophy students and research scholars. Milestone Education Society, Pehowa: Being General Secretary of this society since 2005; we are working to provide quality education and healthy environment for the poor and needy students. • Desh Raj Sirswal, Positive Philosophy: An Approach to Consider Practical Problems.
The aim of this paper is to give an analysis of a positive attitude towards philosophical problems in which we leave religious and metaphysical speculations and only consider practical problems. The motive is to achieve an intellectual detachment from all philosophical systems, and not to solve specific philosophical problems, but to become sensitively aware of what it is we do, when we philosophize. Abstraction without relevance to life and living in high sounding is nothing, but leading to darkness. The usefulness (...)

  • Desh Raj Sirswal, Ryle's Dispositional Analysis of Mind and its Relevance.
In this seminar I have discussed the traditional approach to the relation of mind and body which assumes that there is a basic distinction between Mind and matter. According to Ryle, the classical theory of mind, as represented by Cartesian rationalism, asserts that there is a basic distinction between mind and matter. Mind is just the way the human body and its brain function. Thus, according to Ryle, a dualist makes a big category mistake by confusing the terms of different (...)

  • Desh Raj Sirswal (2009). GILBERRT RYLE ON DESCARTES' MYTH. Darshna:Electrical Journal of Indian Philosophy.
The aim of this paper is to critically examine the Ryle's conception of “Descartes Myth”. Ryle has two objectives in his book The Concept of Mind: (i) to refute a current philosophical theory about mind. (ii) to substitute at least in blue print, a satisfactory alternative. This paper gives a descriptive analysis of what Ryle calls Descartes-Myth and arguments for it. Conclusion of this paper drawn as he does not succeed in dispelling the myth but only substitutes a peculiar logical (...)

  • Desh Raj Sirswal (2009). The Official Doctrine and its Relevance Today. PARISHEELAN.
This seminar is an attempt to show that “official doctrine” is dead in only one of its ontological aspects: substance dualism may well have been repudiated but property dualism still claims a number of contemporary defenders. Here we will discuss Ryle’s explanation of Descartes’ dualism and also about its relevance. This doctrine of separation between mind and body is referred by Ryle as “the dogma of the ghost in the machine.” Ryle argues that there is no ghostly, invisible entity called (...)

  • Desh Raj Sirswal (2008). Human Beings Have No Identical Self. DARSANA-Electric Journal of Indian Philosophy.
‘What am I’ is the question which is generally asked and answered differently , since the history of thought. It is related to one’s identity, so everyone gives different answer according to their personal history, physical features and circumstances. For Hume self is neither a body, nor a mind, nor a combination of both, nor an unknown substance as some thinkers generally say and defend. It is only a series of experiences, a strew of feelings, sensations, desires, thoughts, beliefs etc (...)
