|Abstract||Both Immanuel Kant and Jean-François Lyotard explore the nature of enthusiasm and provide diverse interpretations as to its political relevance. This paper has as its focus a critical reading of both philosophers' positions and will endeavour to show that Lyotard's rereading of Kant eschews the distinction between aesthetics and politics by collapsing the analogous relation between aesthetics and politics to one of identity, thereby rendering Kant's vision of a genuine political enthusiasm too sentimental and too affected|
