The Moral Case for Institutional Cosmopolitanism

Croatian Journal of Philosophy 4 (1):3-28 (2004)
Abstract In this paper I consider both moral and non-moral reasons for world government, what has been called ‘institutional cosmopolitanism’. I first describe several non-moral forces leading to the need for a central international governing body, and then I offer three Moral Arguments for Cosmopolitanism. The main arguments are The Moral Point of View: The Principle of Humanity and the Moral Equality of Persons. I then argue that the case for moral cosmopolitanism together with the non-moral forces leading to globalism support a case for institutional cosmopolitanism
