    I. The present paper was read as one of ‘Three Notes of Doubt and One of Despair’ at the Oxford Philological Society in June 1948. Generally speaking, there is nothing to be said in favour of publishing an article on a text one is admittedly unable to under-stand. But in this case it has seemed advisable to start a discussion. I am therefore grateful to my friend P. Fraser for having consented to communicate his thoughts on the matter in an (...)

    Literary Chronology of the Neronian Age.Arnaldo Momigliano - 1944 - Classical Quarterly 38 (3-4):96-.
    J. M. C. Toynbee's study ‘Nero Artifex: the Apocolocyntosis Reconsidered’, C.Q. xxxvi, 1942, 83–93, has the double merit of questioning what had never been questioned—the dating of the Apocolocyntosis about A.D. 54–5—and of making many valuable observations on the importance of the Neronia of A.D. 60. But the attempt to transfer to these Neronia the Apocolocyntosis, the Carmina by Calpurnius, the second of the Carmina Einsiedlensia, and, to a certain extent also, Lucan's De Bello Civili, seems to me, if I (...)

Theorem Proving via Uniform Proofs>.Alberto Momigliano - unknown
Uniform proofs systems have recently been proposed [Mi191j as a proof-theoretic foundation and generalization of logic programming. In [Mom92a] an extension with constructive negation is presented preserving the nature of abstract logic programming language. Here we adapt this approach to provide a complete theorem proving technique for minimal, intuitionistic and classical logic, which is totally goal-oriented and does not require any form of ancestry resolution. The key idea is to use the Godel-Gentzen translation to embed those logics in the syntax (...)

    The Locrian Maidens and the Date of Lycophron's Alexandra1.Arnaldo Momigliano - 1945 - Classical Quarterly 39 (1-2):49-53.
The tribute of two maidens to the temple of Athena in Ilium was discontinued after the end of the ‘Phocian’ war. We have for this the evidence of the Epitome of Apollodorus 6. 22 χéων δ τν παρελӨντων μετ τν Φωκiκν πλεπoν κτiδας πασαντo πμoντεσ. In Tzetzes' commentary to Lycophron 1. 1141 the same piece of information is given on the authority of Timaeus, but Wilamowitz, among others, showed that Tzetzes arbitrarily transferred the name of Timaeus from the scholium on (...)
