El objetivo de este artículo es examinar la definición de “vida” en el pensamiento de Helmut Plessner y de Hans Jonas, para, con base en las evidencias biológicas y las reflexiones de estos autores, plantear la pregunta por las categorías fundamentales que diferencian lo vital de lo inerte, que son, a nuestro juicio, tres: la célula como unidad estructural y funcional, la transmisión de información genética, y la evolución por selección natural.

The aim of this article is to examine the relationship between Wolfhart Pannenberg's idea of God and his conception of history, with the intention of determining the precise nature of the link that, in his view, connects both philosophical and the theological reflection on the meaning of history. We shall first analyze Pannenberg's response to the traditional criticism of Christianity as an anthropomorphic projection of the human being. Then we shall pay attention to the features of any possible fundamentum of (...) history. We will show that, according to Pannenberg, a transition from a philosophical into a theological consideration of history is needed in order to provide a rationally acceptable foundation for both the unity and the meaning of universal history. I present different approaches to psychological causality usually neglected. The debate between mechanism and dualism in psychology has obscured other pluralistic philosophical positions. I begin by setting out Schopenhauer’s position, the "analogic" one, which includes, in a pluralistic view, diverse causations (mechanical, stimulate, and motive reasons) but with a monism of the will at the noumenal level. Then, I review other approaches in psychology and biological sciences: dialectical, constructivist and biosemiotics. All agree to see reality as plural and self-constituted. Comienzo por exponer la postura "analógica" de Schopenhauer, que incluye -de forma pluralista- una diversidad de causaciones (mecánica, estimular y causalidad por motivos) pero con un monismo de la voluntad en el plano nouménico. Después reviso otros enfoques dialécticos en la psicología y en las ciencias biológicas: dialécticas, constructivistas y biosemióticas. La figura del británico Sir Charles Scott Sherrington (1857-1952) ocupa un lugar privilegiado en la historia de la neurofisiología. Su principal contribución estriba en su descubrimiento de la «función integradora del sistema nervioso», en cuyo desarrollo se compendian sus importantes aportaciones al estudio de la diferenciación entre acciones inhibidoras y acciones excitadoras. Menos conocida resulta, sin embargo, su intensa pasión por la filosofía, por la historia (consagró una biografía al médico francés del siglo XVI Jean Fernel) y por la literatura (...) (en especial, por la poesía de Goethe; él mismo compuso numerosos versos, publicados en obras como The Assaying of Brabantius and other Verse, de 1925). Sus amplias inquietudes filosóficas se plasmaron en el libro Man on His Nature, cristalización de las Gifford Lectures que impartió en la Universidad de Edimburgo entre mayo de 1937 y junio de 1938. Su profundidad conceptual y sus implicaciones para el debate contemporáneo en torno al problema mente-cerebro son insoslayables. En este trabajo nos detendremos, precisamente, en el análisis de la propuesta filosófica de Sherrington sobre la naturaleza de la mente humana. (shrink)

This book explores a theory of human knowledge through a model of rationality combined with some fundamental logical, mathematical, physical and neuroscientific considerations. Its ultimate goal is to present a philosophical system of integrated knowledge, in which the different domains of human understanding are unified by common conceptual structures, such that traditional metaphysical and epistemological questions may be addressed in light of these categories. Philosophy thus becomes a that may reproduce and even expand the conceptual chain followed by nature and (...) thought, in an effort to organize the results of the different branches of knowledge by inserting them in a broader framework.
