http://dx.doi.org/10.5007/1808-1711.2008v12n2p121 O objetivo deste trabalho é discutir e desenvolver o diagnóstico que efetua van Fraassen (1987, p. 110) da lei de Hardy-Weinberg, de acordo coo qual esta: 1) não pode ser considerada uma lei a ser utilizada como un axioma da teoria genética de populações, pois é uma lei de equilíbrio que só vale sob certas condições especiais, 2) só determina uma subclasse de modelos, 3) sua generalização resulta vácua e 4) variantes complexas da lei podem ser deduzidas para pressupostos (...) mais realistas. A discussão e desenvolvimento deste diagnóstico será levada a cabo tomando como base noções propostas por outra das concepções semânticas afim daquela desenvolvida por van Fraassen, a saber: a concepção estruturalista das teorias, e uma reconstrução da genética clássica de populações no marco de uma tal metateoria, também apresentada neste trabalho. Lang, lang geleden werd de planeet getiranniseerd door een gigantische draak. De draak was groter dan de grootste kerk en was bedekt met dikke, zwarte schubben. Zijn rode ogen gloeiden van haat en uit zijn verschrikkelijke bek stroomde onophoudelijk stinkend, geelgroen slijm. Hij eiste van de mens een ijzingwekkend eerbetoon: om zijn enorme honger te stillen, moesten er iedere avond bij het vallen van het duister tienduizend mannen en vrouwen aan de voet van de berg, waar de draak-tiran woonde, afgeleverd (...) worden. Soms slokte de draak deze arme zielen gelijk op; soms sloot hij ze echter op in de berg waar zij maanden of jaren wegkwijnden totdat zij uiteindelijk opgegeten werden. (shrink)
In the papers "De Apologie van het denken"; "De moeizame gang van het denken"; "De bouw van de materie"; "Het wezen van de materie", the writer deals with the problem of matter as it presents itself to modern physics. His conclusion is: the physical world is to be considered as created by mind. It has no character apart from mind. All physical objects are built up of matter and matter itself -- as far as its nature can be grasped by (...) the mental process of thinking -- is nothing else but the potential object created by the mind. It follows that physical science must necessarily express itself materialistically and mathematically. But the term "materialism" has lost the particular significance which it had some ten years ago: matter is not opposed to mind, but actually the outcome of a mind-process. On the other hand, what we really do when we are trying to understand the nature of matter, is, trying to understand the processes of thinking that lie behind. It is not denied that matter may have still another aspect, which remains hidden from the process of thinking, but which might be grasped by some other spiritual process. Physics, however, does not inquire into this question. The sole object of physical science is formed by the thinkable properties of matter. One could say that it busies itself only with dead matter. But as life cannot really know death, each attempt to picture the nature of matter is doomed to fail just in so far as it gives a picture. No picture can be adaequate. This is the fundamental reason why physics are impelled to break up matter and to reduce it to purely mathematical relations. (shrink)
De acordo com a concepção dominante de causação, eventos espácio-temporalmente localizáveis que podem ser designados por termos singulares e descrições definidas são os únicos relata genuínos da relação causal. Isto dá apoio e é apoiado pela dicotomia aceita entre a explicação causal, concebida como uma relação intensional entre fatos ou verdades, e a relação natural e extensional da causação. O ensaio questiona este modo de ver e argumenta pela legitimidade da noção de causação por fatos: os relata de muitas relações (...) expressas pelo conector sentencial ‘(O fato) C causa (o fato) E’ podem ser causas e efeitos genuínos (I). Esta visão expandida da causação é então aplicada ao problema da causação mental. Assumindo a verdade do realizacionismo físico, o ensaio explora a conexão entre eficácia causal e relevância contrafactual de propriedades. Mostra-se que, pelo menos em muitos casos, as ligações contrafactuais corretas, requeridas pela causação, podem ser encontradas somente no nível dos fatos realizados, não no nível mais básico dos fatos realizadores (II). Finalmente, dadas as similaridades entre a defesa do fisicismo não-reducionista esboçada aqui e as tentativas menos modestas de justificação científica das pretensões do materialismo metafísico, justamente criticadas por van Fraassen como manifestações da ‘falsa consciência’, considera-se se e como a argumento principal do ensaio pode evitar o juízo crítico de van Fraassen (III). The Dutch biologist C J. van der Klaauw (1893–1972) structuralized the epistemology of oecology using concepts which exceeded the limits of a strictly teleological interpretation of nature. This article relates to his theory of holistic oecology which van der Klaauw formulated departing from a critical confrontation with Kant's teleological view on nature. He substituted this extra-scientifically heuristic maxim by the holistic notion of network-like associations between organisms within a community. The analogous similarities between the organization of individual organisms and communities (...) drawn up by van der Klaauw, merely remained propaedeutics for a genuine holistic oecology, which would only employ epistemological principles specifically referring to the organization of supra-individual communities of organisms. This article discusses the process of structuralizing the theory of holistic oecology by van der Klaauw in his dialogue with Kantian philosophy. (shrink)
Avant tout l'auteur marque la place qu'occupe le christianisme dans l'évolution de la pensée philosophique et relève en même temps l'universalité de la révélation chrétienne relativement aux principes de la connaissance. L'idée de Dieu et la notion de la totalité sont considérées dans leurs rapports intimes et l'auteur fait ressortir comment le pluralisme conduit nécessairement au monisme pour aboutir au trinitarisme. Il envisage ensuite la doctrine chrétienne de la création et de la rédemption dans son acceptation la plus rationnelle en (...) accentuant surtout l'idée de la motilité divine. La transcendance, l'immanence et la glorification de l'ingérence divine dans la toute-contingence sont les trois aspects qui contiennent toutes les considérations possibles. Il met en évidence l'état de l'homme-dieu et du dieu-homme en rapport avec les principes de la régénération et de l'évolution ainsi qu'avec les indications de Nietzsche. Il montre la valeur des notions de Sujet et de Substance et indique comment les principes philosophiques du christianisme sont pas seulement par la méthode déductive, mais encore comment ils sont affirmés et sanctionnés par la méthode inductive en relation avec les principes de l'activité et de l'idéalité.
