    Is Superluminal Travel a Theoretical Possibility?N. T. Bishop - 1984 - Foundations of Physics 14 (4):333-340.
The theory of relativity forbids the superluminal travel of ordinary matter. However, it is possible to amend the theory of relativity and to develop a theory permitting superluminal travel. The acceptability of the features needed for superluminal travel is discussed.

    Is Superluminal Travel a Theoretical Possibility? II.N. T. Bishop - 1988 - Foundations of Physics 18 (5):571-574.
In a previous paper a theoretical method permitting superluminal travel was suggested. A difficulty with the global conservation of energy and momentum is settled here.

    Do Tachyons Produce an Unacceptable Gravitational Field?N. T. Bishop - 1989 - Foundations of Physics 19 (5):619-624.
The geodesics and the curvature of a metric representing an isolated tachyon are investigated. It is argued that the properties are unphysical and inconsistent with observation, thus providing further evidence against the existence of tachyons.

    Gravitational Redshift and the Equivalence Principle.P. T. Landsberg & N. T. Bishop - 1976 - Foundations of Physics 6 (6):727-737.
Two problems have long been confused with each other: the gravitational redshift as discussed by the equivalence principle; and the Doppler shift observed by a detector which moves with constant proper acceleration away from a stationary source. We here distinguish these two problems and give for the first time a solution of the former which is ‘exact’ within the context of the equivalence principle in a sense discussed in the paper. The equivalence principle leads to transformations between flat spacetimes. These (...)

The Impact of Contextual Priors and Anxiety on Performance Effectiveness and Processing Efficiency in Anticipation.David P. Broadbent, N. Viktor Gredin, Jason L. Rye, A. Mark Williams & Daniel T. Bishop - 2018 - Cognition and Emotion 33 (3):589-596.
ABSTRACTIt is proposed that experts are able to integrate prior contextual knowledge with emergent visual information to make complex predictive judgments about the world around them, often under heightened levels of uncertainty and extreme time constraints. However, limited knowledge exists about the impact of anxiety on the use of such contextual priors when forming our decisions. We provide a novel insight into the combined impact of contextual priors and anxiety on anticipation in soccer. Altogether, 12 expert soccer players were required (...)

    Is N. T. Wright Right About Substance Dualism?Stewart Goetz - 2012 - Philosophia Christi 14 (1):183-192.
According to N. T. Wright, anyone who is a Christian should at least think twice before he or she speaks about the soul, especially as an entity that is distinct from its physical body and can survive death in a disembodied intermediate state until the resurrection and reembodiment. In Wright’s mind, talk of the soul is talk about soul-body substance dualism, which is the villain in Christian anthropological thought. As far as Wright is concerned, it is time for Christians to (...)

  11. Responding to N.T. Wright's Rejection of the Soul.Brandon L. Rickabaugh - 2018 - Heythrop Journal 59 (2):201-220.
At a 2011 meeting of the Society of Christian Philosophers, N. T. Wright offered four reasons for rejecting the existence of soul. This was surprising, as many Christian philosophers had previously taken Wright's defense of a disembodied intermediate state as a defense of a substance dualist view of the soul. In this paper, I offer responses to each of Wright's objections, demonstrating that Wright's arguments fail to undermine substance dualism. In so doing, I expose how popular arguments against dualism fail, (...)

There Oughta Be a Law: When Does(N’T) the U.S. Common Rule Apply?Michelle N. Meyer - 2020 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 48 (S1):60-73.
Using mobile health research as an extended example, this article provides an overview of when the Common Rule “applies” to a variety of activities, what might be meant when one says that the Common Rule does or does not “apply,” the extent to which these different meanings of “apply” matter, and, when the Common Rule does apply, how it applies.

    The Rise of Western Rationalism: Max Weber's Developmental History.N. T. H. - 1982 - Review of Metaphysics 36 (1):194-196.
Max Weber's dominant scholarly concern was the development of rationalism in the West. He exemplified his interest in this theme in his two great works, Economy and Society and The Economic Ethics of the World Religions. In Wolfgang Schluchter's new book, The Rise of Western Rationalism: Max Weber's Developmental History, the author presents an analysis and re-evaluation of Weber's sociology of Western rationalism. He also wants to show Weber's relation to the sociological school of neo-evolutionism. By an examination of Weber's (...)

    EM + Ext_ + AC~I~N~T is Equivalent to AC~E~X~T.J. Carlstrom - 2004 - Mathematical Logic Quarterly 50 (3):236.
It is well known that the extensional axiom of choice implies the law of excluded middle. We here prove that the converse holds as well if we have the intensional axiom of choice ACint, which is provable in Martin-Löf's type theory, and a weak extensionality principle, which is provable in Martin-Löf's extensional type theory. In particular, EM is equivalent to ACext in extensional type theory.
