Ernst Cassirer and Ernst Bloch are considered from the standpoint of the philosophy of culture as the object of comparative study. Instead of considering possible mutual correlative influences, their work is considered with regard to a possible systematic comparison. Bloch's Materialism, like Cassirer's Philosophy of symbolic Forms, can be read as a kind of philosophy of media, if we take »medium« to mean the dimension in which meaning is generated. Die Aufsätze dieses Bandes untersuchen Grundbegriffe des Politischen bei Ernst Bloch, seine publizistischen Eingriffe sowie mögliche Perspektiven. Insgesamt bezeugen sie die Vielzahl der Denkanstösse, die Bloch der politischen Philosophie gegeben hat. Den modernen Staat sieht Bloch, ohne eine Staatsheorie im eigentlichen Sinne auszuführen, unter der utopischen Perspektive einer Aufhebung der politischen Gewalt. Erst in einer klassenlosen Gesellschaft werden die Probleme der menschlichen Existenz und der Philosophie einer expressiven Lösung entgegengetrieben werden können. Von dieser Utopie aus erhalten die Menschenrechte eine (...) positive, über den Staat hinausweisende naturrechtliche" Bedeutung. Sie werden zu Wegweisern in eine soziale Ordnung, deren einziger Inhalt die Freiheit einer Selbstverwirklichung ist, die das Privateigentum hinter sich gelassen hat. Sozialismus wird in diesem Horizont zur Vollendung der bürgerlichen Revolutionen, deren demokratische Errungenschaften er voraussetzt. (shrink)

Ernst Blochs frühes Hauptwerk ist dem schwierigen Verhältnis von offener materialistischer Philosophie und geschlossenem Systemansatz gewidmet und ringt dabei mit der idealistischen Metaphysik ebenso wie mit der Existenzphilosophie. Der vorliegende Band erschließt Das Prinzip Hoffnung auf dem neuesten Stand der Debatte und macht seine ungebrochene Aktualität für ein breites akademisches Publikum zugänglich.

Scheint die Sache aussichtslos, wird das "Prinzip Hoffnung" beschworen. Dessen Urheber, Ernst Bloch, war allerdings nicht ins Scheitern, sondern ins "Gelingen verliebt" Für die Philosophie der "konkreten Utopie", die sich strikt vom utopischen Denken im Sinne eines "wishful thinking" abgrenzt, ist die gesellschaftliche Praxis Orientierungspunkt. Die Trias "Solidarität, Allianztechnik, Heimat" markiert ein Ultimum, das latent im Weltprozess vorscheint, aber der Realisierung durch das menschliche Subjekt immer noch bedarf. Ein entsprechendes philosophisches Begriffsinstrumentarium, dem der Gedanke vom "Prius der Theorie, Primat (...) der Praxis" zugrunde liegt, hat Bloch systematisch in seiner Kategorienlehre entwickelt. Gegenstand ist das universelle menschliche Sein als "Noch-Nicht-Sein". Akzentuiert wird die auf dem Prozesscharakter der Materie beruhende Möglichkeit der Veränderung. Dabei umfasst das Denken nicht nur Gesellschaft, Kunst und Religion, sondern auch die Natur - ein Gebiet, das zunehmend zu philosophischer Insichtnahme auffordert. Die Ergebnisse der Arbeitsgruppe zu Problemen der philosophischen Grundlegung im Nachgang zu den Ansätzen von Schelling und Bloch, vor allem in den Jahren 2012 bis 2014 bei mehreren Zusammentreffen erarbeitet, ursprünglich ausgehend von der Positiven Philosophie Schellings, haben zwar zu einigen neuen Erkenntnissen beigetragen und in der Hauptsache auch eine zunehmende Konvergenz zwischen den Ansätzen Schellings und Blochs genauer belegt, zugleich aber neue Fragen aufgeworfen und deutlich werden lassen, dass der Begriff einer Grundlegung noch weit von der endgültigen Aufklärung entfernt (...) ist. Im hier vorliegenden Sammelband ist eine neuerliche Anstrengung unternommen worden, sich nicht nur auf diese Grundkonstellation zurückzubesinnen, sondern auch unmittelbare Bezüge herzustellen zwischen der Philosophie einerseits und den Wissenschaften und Künsten andererseits. This article considers Ernst Bloch’s philosophy of hope in terms of its significance for debates in contemporary humanist thought. It is argued that Bloch achieves a commendable balance between, on the one hand, the maintenance of Utopian ideals, and, on the other hand, ethical vigilance towards the vulnerable position of the human individual. Bloch’s Utopian hermeneutics offers a corrective to the limitations and shortcomings of anti-totalitarian humanism. The potential for a constructive dialogue between an interpretation of Bloch’s work and (...) anti-totalitarian authors is explored. Bloch’s phenomenology of death indicates the extent to which his philosophy remains attentive to the existential experiences of the individual human being. The emotion which characterises the individual subject’s realisation of his / her mortality is characteristically one of melancholy over the incomplete work of life. (shrink)

Converti au marxisme, en 1919, dans le sillage de György Lukacs, exilé, dès mars 1933, en fuyant le nazisme, en Suisse, en France, en République tchèque et finalement aux États-Unis (1938-1949), Ernst Bloch, auteur du Principe espérance, décide en février 1949 de retourner en Europe et d’accepter la chaire de professeur d’histoire de la philosophie que lui offrait l’Allemagne de l’Est, à l’université de Leipzig. Après avoir appuyé tout d’abord, dans ses conférences, non sans un certain enthousiasme, le projet (...) de la « construction du socialisme », Ernst Bloch sera pourtant vite déçu de la politique des dirigeants de la RDA qui, comme Walter Ulbricht, étaient complètement alignés sur les positions de l’Union soviétique et imitaient, avec zèle, les méthodes staliniennes. Accusé de « révisionnisme » et de liens avec le groupe oppositionnel de W. Harich, préconisant une voie « allemande » et démocratique vers le socialisme, il sera interdit d’enseignement, dès avril 1957. Il quittera la RDA en août 1961, une semaine avant la construction du Mur de Berlin. (shrink)

ABSTRACT Ernst Bloch is a philosopher of hope, of this there can be no doubt. It is the fidelity to the proposition that a better world is possible that undergirds Bloch’s work. Yet, the hopeful tenor of Bloch’s philosophy, as I argue here, is accompanied by a second, more subterranean strand: a concern with the phenomenon of disappointment. Bloch has an interest in what happens after hope fails; those moments when the desire for utopia confronts the impossibility of its (...) realisation. By considering Bloch’s philosophical history of the defeat of the chiliastic movements of the medieval moment alongside his ontology of not-yet-being, the claim is made that disappointment has a constitutive role in the philosophy of hope, such that the dream of a new world is mediated through the history of its failures. Hope and disappointment are entangled, the power of the former indexed to the act of confronting the latter. (shrink)

Ernst Bloch desenvolveu uma teoria na qual a dualidade entre a história humana e natureza pode ser superada e compreendida desde sua unidade originária. Bloch insere o ser humano na natureza de tal modo que, simultaneamente, se torna possível conceber a história humana como constitutiva do devir processual da mesma. Com isto, na medida em que o devir da natureza é concebido numa perspectiva aberta, constitui-se a possibilidade de entendimento da ação humana enquanto produção da própria natureza. As possibilidades (...) da práxis humana ampliam-se, assim, tanto qualitativa quanto quantitativamente. O confronto com a compreensão da relação entre natureza e história em Hegel e Heidegger é um recurso usado para explicitar a especificidade da posição de Ernst Bloch.. (shrink)
