Designed to help nursing students prepare for the NCLEX-RN licensure exam, the third edition of this exam assesses their knowledge and abilities before they take the Boards. The AssessTest is comprised of 265 questions that reflect the stand-alone format and distribution of content according to the NCLEX-RN test plan. A detailed computer evaluation analyses individual strengths and weaknesses to help students plan study time more effectively.

Oceny moralnej postępowania można dokonywać z dwóch różnych punktów widzenia. Jeden styl oceniania można nazwać „etyką uniwersalną” lub „etyką czystego sumienia”. Drugi styl można nazwać„partykularyzmem etycznym” czyli „etyką samokontroli.” Etyka pierwszego rodzaju zazwyczaj wykorzystuje pojęcia takie jak obowiązek, błąd, odpowiedzialność, wstyd, kara, pokuta, przebaczenie. Etyka drugiego rodzaju zwykle używa pojęć takich jak przywiązanie, niepowodzenie, ponoszenie odpowiedzialności, obwinianie, żal, poprawa, naprawienie szkód, zapomnienie. W etyce uniwersalnej obowiązki są czymś rzeczywistym i niezależnym. W tym sensie jest ona absolutystyczna. Co prawda etyka partykularystyczna (...) również uznaje niektóre obowiązki za naturalne i bezwarunkowe, lecz są to głównie obowiązki wobec własnych dzieci lub rodziców, współmałżonków czy współplemieńców, a nie obowiązki wobec całego świata lub wszystkich jednostek ludzkich. Etyka partykularyzmu rozumie obowiązki w świetle konkretnych relacji między jednostkami, ról społecznych lub zawodowych, dobrowolnie zaciągniętych zobowiązań. Etyka uniwersalistyczna brzmi sztucznie i retorycznie we wspólnocie jednostek, które darzą się wzajemnym szacunkiem, są zdolne do otwartego porozumiewania się z jednostkami proponującymi niepopularne punkty widzenia, są tolerancyjni i akceptują pluralizm opinii. Z drugiej strony hierarchiczna wspólnota mocno wspierająca przyjęty porządek społeczny i moralny, wroga jednostkom, które podkreślają swoje przekonania, nie może zaakceptować etyki pluralizmu bez utraty swej spoistości i funkcjonalności. Wybór między tymi dwoma rodzajami etyki jest przeto trudny w społeczeństwie, któremu brak wspólnych standardów tolerancji i która zachowuje hierarchię społeczną autorytetu, który uległ erozji. Two principles are proposed, which according to the author can help solve conflicts of interests between men and animals: Z1: “Whoever increases probability of causing pain to others should by the same fraction increase the probability of his suffering comparable pain”, and Z2: “If the product of the probability of causing same pain and the amount of that pain is constant for two acts it is morally irrelevant, which of the two acts is performed”.

Following a suggestion of S. Polgar health has been discussed as the “lack of illness” and “élan vital”. The choice between these two conceptions is said to belong to biology, medicine and sociology. It is feasible that these sciences will be able some day to find out if there is a non-specific and sufficiently general defence mechanism against various diseases, and if so, the concept of “élan vital” will have been shown to be more appropriate, if not, the concept of (...) “lack of illness” will have to be given priority. The article tries to find an answer to the question: When should we help, and how much sacrifice should we make while helping? Some opinion of Seneca, Bacon, Hume, Kant, Sidgwick and Mill are quoted – either pertaining directly to that question or touching upon subjects closely related to it. These opinions, together with an analysis of some examples, help to formulate eleven principles which may come in handy whenever we wonder how much help can be expected of us in (...) particular situations. These eleven principles are not enough to find answers to all questions that might arise in such situations. Neither are they sufficient to find a solution to the query, how much we should do in common to bring help to those who need it. It seems therefore that the range of help in need should be determined by the individual and subjective considerations, such as benevolence, spontaneous sympathy, love or goodness, and not by unbiased, ethical arguments. But if this solution is right the problem of help in need is largely removed from the sphere of ethical considerations. (shrink)

The article discusses principles of distributive justice with respect to population of the disabled and rehabilitated persons. The main problem is to find a rule which should be adhered to when a limited amount of goods, such as social benefits or prosthetic equipment, etc., has to be distributed among numerous people who may apply for them. Five different principles are in turn discussed.
