Ethical Leader Behavior and Big Five Factors of Personality.Karianne Kalshoven, Deanne N. Den Hartog & Annebel H. B. De Hoogh - 2011 - Journal of Business Ethics 100 (2):349 - 366.
Most research on ethical leadership to date investigates the consequences of ethical leadership rather than its antecedents. Here, we aim to contribute to this field by studying leader personality as a potential antecedent of ethical leader behavior. In two multisource studies, we investigated the relationships between personality traits and ethical leader behavior. Leader personality was measured through self-ratings using the five-factor personality framework. Two subordinates rated their leaders' ethical behavior. Study 1 used a unidimensional Ethical Leadership Scale (ELS). In study (...)

It’s a Match: Moralization and the Effects of Moral Foundations Congruence on Ethical and Unethical Leadership Perception.Maxim Egorov, Karianne Kalshoven, Armin Pircher Verdorfer & Claudia Peus - 2020 - Journal of Business Ethics 167 (4):707-723.
While much research has focused on the effects of ethical and unethical leadership, little is known about how followers come to perceive their leaders as ethical or unethical. In this article, we investigate the co-creation of ethical and unethical leadership perceptions. Specifically, we draw from emerging research on moral congruence in organizational behaviour and empirically investigate the role of congruence in leaders’ and followers’ moral foundations in followers’ perceptions of ethical and unethical leadership. By analysing objective congruence scores from 67 (...)

Sustainability at the Crossroads of Fish Consumption and Production Ethical Dilemmas of Fish Buyers at Retail Organizations in The Netherlands.Karianne Kalshoven & Franck L. B. Meijboom - 2013 - Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics 26 (1):101-117.
Sustainability and welfare are concepts that are often mentioned in the context of fishing and fish farming. What these concepts imply in practice, how they are defined and made operational is less clear. This paper focuses on the role of fish buyers as a key actor in the supply chain between the fisher or fish farmer and the consumer. Using semi-structured interviews, we explore and analyze whether and how the interviewed fish buyers define and implement moral values related to animal (...)

Zwei Wiener Reden Reinholds: Ein Beitrag Zu Reinholds Frühphilosophie.Ernst-Otto Onnasch & Karianne Marx - 2010 - In George di Giovanni (ed.), Karl Leonhard Reinhold and the Enlightenment, Studies in German Idealism, Vol. 9.
This contribution presents for the first time in critical edition two early speeches written by Reinhold. Reinhold wrote them in 1783 to be delivered during meetings of the Viennese Masonic Lodge “Zur wahren Eintracht” (To True Harmony) of which he was a member. The first, “Über die Kunst des Lebens zu genüssen” (On the art of enjoying life), discusses the best way for Masons to wisely deal with the joys and pains of life. In the second, “Der Werth einer Gesellschaft (...)

Designing a Delinked Incentive for Critical Antibiotics: Lessons From Norway.Christine Årdal, Jostein Johnsen & Karianne Johansen - 2018 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 46 (s1):43-49.
No country has yet implemented a pilot to ensure access to or the innovation of new antibiotics for multi-drug infections. A team from national health agencies in Norway, with the support of the Innovative Medicine Initiative-funded project DRIVE-AB, designed a model suitable for the national context, including the selection of the antibiotics, the potential value, and the operational model.

The Influence of Demonstrated Concern on Perceived Ethical Leadership: A Levinasian Approach.Corey Steiner - 2020 - Philosophy of Management 19 (4):447-467.
This paper brings empirical and theoretical studies of ethical leadership into conversation with one another in an effort to determine the antecedent to perceived ethical leadership. Employing a Levinasian perspective, I argue that ethical leadership entails being faced with the impossible task of realizing the needs of many individual others. For this reason, I argue, perceived ethical leadership is grounded in an employee’s perception that a leader struggles to make decisions based on the conflicting demands placed upon her. More important (...)
