Have Computation, Animatronics, and Robotic Art Anything to Say About Emotion, Compassion, and How to Model Them? The Survivor Project.Ephraim Nissan, Ricardo Cassinis & Laura Maria Morelli - 2008 - Pragmatics and Cognition 16 (1):3-36.
We discuss robotic art, emotion in robotic art, and compassion in the philosophy of art. We discuss a particular animated artwork, survivor, the walking chair, symbolising survivors of landmine blasts, learning to use crutches, and maimed emotionally as well as physically. Its control incorporates mutual relations between very rudimentary representations of distinct emotions. This artwork is intended for sensitising viewers to the horror experienced by those who survive, and those who don't. We can only give a small sample, here, of (...)

    The Sixth Stage of Moral Development.Elizabeth A. Morelli - 1978 - Journal of Moral Education 7 (2):97-108.
Abstract This assessment of L. Kohlberg's theory of moral development is a dialectical critique focusing on his claim that the sixth stage of moral development is morally adequate, specifically, that it is both comprehensive and fully equilibrated. The dialectical method employed follows the generalized empirical method advanced by B. Lonergan. The paper includes a brief account of this method and of the sixth stage of moral reasoning as outlined by Kohlberg. Employing the dialectical notions of intellectual conversion and moral conversion, (...)

    Insight and the Subject.Eric James Morelli - 2011 - International Philosophical Quarterly 51 (2):137-148.
Frederick E. Crowe claims that Lonergan’s thought underwent a radical transformation after the publication of Insight. In several recent articles he argues that inthe course of dealing with a problem of insight into insight and a problem of the subject as subject, Lonergan was on the verge of articulating a problem of the heteromorphism of subjectivity. I argue that Crowe’s claims depend on an uncritically selective and hermeneutically insensitive use of sources and a nest of ambiguities. By distinguishing the various (...)

The Polymorphism of Human Consciousness and the Prospects for a Lonerganian History of Philosophy.Mark D. Morelli - 1995 - International Philosophical Quarterly 35 (4):379-402.
Lonergan's account of human consciousness as polymorphic self-presence differs significantly from both the variety of contemporary reductionistic accounts and phenomenological treatments still influenced strongly by Cartesian suppositions and/or Kantian restrictions. It is argued that Lonergan's account grounds not only a critical meta-philosophy, but also provides a heuristic structure for a nuanced genetic account of philosophic differences. In this regard, Lonergan's account is claimed to be an adequate grounding for a thorough contemporary response to the Hegelian requirement that philosophers account not (...)

Spaces for Musical Performance in Seventeenth-Century Roman Residences.Arnaldo Morelli - 2012 - In The Music Room in Early Modern France and Italy: Sound, Space and Object. pp. 309.
This chapter investigates the locations and modes of musical performance in the residences of the nobility in seventeenth-century Rome, indicating the differences between this period and the Renaissance. In particular, instances of music-making in the courts of princes and cardinals are identified and described, in relation to considerations of etiquette, social conventions and anthropology. This research, based on first-hand documentary research in the archives of Roman noble families, has revealed unexpected locations for music-making, which cannot always be justified in terms (...)
