I Am the People: Reflections on Popular Sovereignty Today.Partha Chatterjee - 2019 - Columbia University Press.
The forms of liberal government that emerged after World War II are in the midst of a profound crisis. In I Am the People, Partha Chatterjee reconsiders the concept of popular sovereignty in order to explain today’s dramatic outburst of movements claiming to speak for “the people.” To uncover the roots of populism, Chatterjee traces the twentieth-century trajectory of the welfare state and neoliberal reforms. Mobilizing ideals of popular sovereignty and the emotional appeal of nationalism, anticolonial movements ushered (...)

Essays on Vedanta and Western philosophies: (Vedanta as interpreted by Sri Aurobindo).Arun Chatterjee - 2017 - Twin Lakes, WI: Lotus Press.
Philosophical issues such as reality and appearance, God and world, self and not-self, rebirth and immortality, free will and determination, mysticism, etc., have been examined by eastern and western philosophers as far back as the sages of Upanishads (700 BCE) in the East, and Plato (400 BCE) in the West. However, there was no significant communication among the philosophers of the East and West perhaps until the eighteenth century. Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) was one of the first among the great western (...)

A Sustainable Philosophy for Teaching Ethics and Morals to Build Character, Pro-social Skills and Well-being in Children.Dipankar Khanna - 2023 - Journal of the Indian Council of Philosophical Research 40 (2):207-222.
This paper looks at frameworks for the practice of moral and ethical values for children, drawn from Yoga and Buddhist Philosophies. Verily the purpose is to inculcate a repository of thought and behaviour through which they align moral and ethical behaviours by becoming important cogs in establishing harmony in the world that we exist. Harmony between one child and another child, harmony between children and their families, harmony between the families and larger society and harmony between society and other sentient (...)

    From compliance to concordance in diabetes.J. S. Chatterjee - 2006 - Journal of Medical Ethics 32 (9):507-510.
Compliance is a key concept in health care and affects all areas of health care including diabetes. Non-compliance has previously been a label attached to many patients without much thought having been given to the causes of poor compliance. Over the last few decades there has been a large volume of research focusing on compliance that has exposed the multitude of factors affecting compliance. Even the definition is not clear cut and so comparability between studies is not without difficulties. A (...)

Vajranŕtyam: a Phenomenological Look at the Cham or Lama Dance as a Meditative Experience.Dipankar Khanna & J. Shashi Kiran Reddy - 2020 - Journal of Dharma Studies 3 (1):175-191.
Across cultures, in most parts of the world, one come across traditions that employ unique and unusual pedagogies as skilful means to powerfully craft and re-craft our lives and in realizing the self. Using creative meaning-making, individuals evoke wholesome ideas and then motivate their personal selves to perform to them. The Vajranŕtyam or Cham is one of the unique expressions that has been employed from immemorial times to holistically convey the phenomenon of the dance form as a skilful spiritual tool. (...)

The social sciences in a global age: decoding knowledge politics.Dipankar Sinha - 2021 - New York: Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group.
The book focuses on the status and role of social sciences in the current millennium. It critically examines the key debates on the social sciences and focuses on their ir/relevance in our times, especially in background of the changing state-market dialectics. It scrutinises knowledge politics of the global times by exploring how the neoliberal project aligns and fuses steep economic 'conditionalities' with professional cultural parameters of higher academia in order to constrain autonomy and weaken radical expressions in social science pedagogy (...)

Brain, beauty, & art: essays bringing neuroaesthetics into focus.Anjan Chatterjee & Eileen R. Cardillo (eds.) - 2022 - New York, NY: Oxford University Press.
When I first started to think about the neural basis of aesthetic experiences in the late 1990s, little was written on the topic. Unlike other domains of psychology, such as attention, or perception, or memory, aesthetics had not gained purchase in cognitive neuroscience. In fact, aesthetics was barely visible in psychology itself despite being rooted in Fechner's writings over a hundred years earlier. In 1999, papers by Zeki (1999) and Ramachandran and Hirstein (1999) were initial forays into scientific aesthetics by (...)

Recent experimental research has revealed surprising patterns in people's intuitions about free will and moral responsibility. One limitation of this research, however, is that it has been conducted exclusively on people from Western cultures. The present paper extends previous research by presenting a cross-cultural study examining intuitions about free will and moral responsibility in subjects from the United States, Hong Kong, India and Colombia. The results revealed a striking degree of cross-cultural convergence. In all four cultural groups, the majority of (...)

This pioneering book discusses the role of ethics in today’s fiercely competitive business environment. The author examines in detail how business ethics and values contribute to effective business practices. The book approaches this important subject from the perspective of leadership and maintains that thinking in terms of business ethics is really thinking leadership. The book illustrates how if top management has a clear focus on ethics it brings about more competitiveness, creativity, cohesion and direction in business practices. The book also (...)

Learning to forget: the anti-memoirs of modernity.Dipankar Gupta - 2005 - New Delhi: Oxford University Press.
This project is written as a mission to separate the modern from the contemporaneous, to revisit the idea of modernity and to de-link it from superficial traits of westernization. Discussing the difference between modernization and westoxication, the book is a phenomenological treatment that is abstract and yet illustrative, when discussing issues such as affirmative action, citizenship, and development in India. This book argues that given the reality of mistaken modernity and the idealization of the past in many societies of the (...)

The Nyaya theory of knowledge: a critical study of some problems of logic and metaphysics.Satischandra Chatterjee - 2015 - New Delhi: Rupa Publications India Private.
The Nyãya philosophy is primarily concerned with the conditions of valid thought and the means of acquiring true knowledge of objects. Its ultimate end, like that of the other systems of Indian philosophy, is liberation-a state of pure existence- which is free from both pleasure and pain. For the attainment of this liberation, a true knowledge of objects is the surest means. Hence the theory of knowledge is the very foundation of the Nyãya system. The Nyãya Theory of Knowledge is (...)

We argue that the inference of CP violation in experiments involving the K0-K0 system in weak interactions of particle physics is facilitated by the assumption of particle trajectories for the decaying particles and the decay products. A consistent explanation in terms of such trajectories is naturally incorporated within the Bohmian interpretation of quantum mechanics.

Social perception analysis being the subjective domain of bioethics and related biotechnological issues are the functional epitome in ensuring benevolent biotechnological entrepreneurship development. Ethical standards, attitudes toward risk, and intentional noncompliance: An experimental investigation. [REVIEW]Dipankar Ghosh & Terry L. Crain - 1995 - Journal of Business Ethics 14 (5):353 - 365.
Prior research has investigated the influence of decision maker characteristics on decision choice. This research examines the effect two personality traits of taxpayers, attitude towards risk and ethical standards, on intentional noncompliance. A taxpayer who is more (less) ethical will have lower (greater) intentional noncompliance, while a taxpayer who is more (less) risk averse will have lower (greater) intentional noncompliance. However, this study also found significant correlation between risk attitudes and ethical standards. This is because tax evasion is not just (...)

We argue that the Aharonov-Anandan-Vaidman model, by using the notion of so-called “protective measurements,” cannot claim to have dispensed with the ldcollapse of the wave function,” because it does not succeed in avoiding the quantum measurement problem. Its claim to be able to distinguish between two nonorthogonal states is also critically examined.

This study integrates insights from stakeholder theory and the literature on competitive dynamics and incumbent responses to entry. While research in economics and strategy has examined how market incumbents respond to new entrants, little is known about the heterogeneity in these responses to the entry of a stakeholder-oriented firm; our study addresses this research gap. Findings from a novel, longitudinal dataset of 206 granularly defined pharmaceutical markets in India suggest that stakeholder-oriented firm entry in these markets is associated with an (...)
