In prayers lie the experiences, dreams, and identity of the individual. These strengthen faith while fortifying one’s character. This research examines the Dororo of the Ayta Ambala, a native prayer considered a convergence of the community’s experiences, aspirations, and faith. Using a Filipino-centric research approach (Maka-Pilipinong Pananaliksik), nine Dororo were gathered from Sitio Mampuweng, Olongapo City, Zambales, and classified into three types: Dororong Ritwal, a collective prayer for the community; Dororong Panganganito, a healing ritual; and Pansariling Dororo, personal prayers for (...) daily needs. Four themes emerged within the prayers: gratitude, protection, abundant harvest, and remembrance of the deceased. The Dororo reflects Ayta Ambala’s connection to nature, community, and spirituality. This research emphasizes the importance of documentation and knowledge transmission to preserve cultural heritage. Jaime Bulatao is a Filipino scholar renowned in the field of psychology and recognized as one of the pioneers of Filipino Psychology (Sikolohiyang Pilipino). Beyond his contributions to academia, his ideas are significant for emphasizing the connection between psychology and philosophy rooted in Filipino culture. To explore Bulatao’s profound thought, this paper will utilize the twelve discourses of Filipino Philosophy proposed by Demeterio as an analytical framework. These discourses will serve as a guide in analyzing selected works of Bulatao to (...) highlight the distinct philosophy present in his writings. Since philosophy is always linked to the context of history, culture, and personal experience, this study will also give attention to Bulatao’s biography. By revisiting key stages of his life—from his education and vocation as a priest to his contributions to academia—the roots of his ideas and their importance in the Filipino context will become clearer. The paper aims to demonstrate how his academic and philosophical endeavors serve as a bridge for a deeper understanding of the relationship between psychology, philosophy, and Filipino culture. Kilala si Carlos Bulosan (1913-1956), higit sa lahat ang kaniyang isinulat na semi-autobiograpiya na America is in the Heart (1946), kung saan kaniyang ipinamalas ang karanasan bilang isang lider-manggagawa sa Estados Unidos sa kontekstong sosyo-politikal at proletaryadong internasyonal sa panahon ng Pandaigdigang Depresiyon (1929-1939). Gayundin ang kaniyang kinaharap na diskriminasyon at rasismo sa dayuhang bansa. Gayumpaman, sa kaliwa’t kanang pag-aaral ukol sa kaniyang buhay at kaisipan, na pawang itinuon at pinagkaabalahan ng mga nahihirati sa Marxismo, Sosyalismo, panitikan, at iba pang (...) kaugnay na perspektiba, hindi gaanong napagtuonan ng pansin ang bayang sinilangan ni Bulosan—ang Pangasinan. Bago pa man “isapuso” ni Bulosan ang Amerika, higit sa malamang, namulat siya sa kaganapang panlipunang mayroon ang mga Pangasinense. Mahalaga ang Pangasinan sa buhay ni Bulosan, una sa lahat, kung bakit niya piniling makibaka sa dayuhang lupain ng Estados Unidos. Tuturulin at tutugunan ng pag-aaral na ito ang dalawang sangay ng Bagong Kasaysayan—ang Kasaysayang Buhay at Kasaysayang Pampook. Samakatuwid, tutuon ito sa pagsasalaysay ng saysay ng isang indibiduwal sa unang banda, habang isinasakonteksto ang kasaysayang pampook bilang “bahagi ng higit na masaklaw na kasaysayang bayan” sa kabilang dako. This paper deals with Filipino values and cultural realities that must be considered by the government, policymakers, health care providers, and decision-makers when coming up with a response strategy to address the problems related to the COVID-19 pandemic. We gave particular focus to the following Filipino values: umpukan, pakikipagkapwa, mano po, lamay, close family ties, utang na loob, and collectivist culture, among others. These Filipino values are culturally ingrained and socially practiced, even in this age of modern technology.
