Personal causality must be studied in the broad contexto of causality in general. Over hislifetime Zubiri’s thought on the subject matured. In this paper we study the chronologicaldevelopment of Zubiri’s theory of causality and personal causality. Until the publication ofEstructura dinámica de la realidad [The Dynamic Structure of Reality, tr. 2005] therewas no systematic analysis of the topic by Zubiri. This work does not just cover causalityin the world, but also studies divine and personal causality—a subject treated at length inEl (...) hombre y Dios [Man and God, tr. 2009]. In Zubiri’s major work Inteligencia sentiente [Sentient Intelligence, tr. 1999] he presents the basis for the study of causality from his noological perspective.La causalidad personal ha de estudiarse en el más amplio contexto de la causalidad encuanto tal. Zubiri ha evolucionado en el modo de conceptuarla. En la primera parte estudiamos el desarrollo diacrónico de su teoría. Hasta su obra Estructura dinámica de la realidad no habrá un estudio sistemático de este tema. No abarca solamente la causalidad intramundana, sino que estudia también la causalidad personal divina; esta se desarrolla bien en El hombre y Dios . Zubiri argues that the problem of God, which every human confronts due to the power thatrealitiy exercises over him, has various solutions. But fundamentally there are just two:theism, which implies faith; and non-theistic attitudes, which are choices realized atdifferent levels of the intellective and/or volitional processes with respect to the enigma ofthe power of the real. Zubiri also establishes a distinction between atheism, or the theismof the “useless” pagan gods, common in classical antiquity, and all other non-theisticchoices: agnosticism, indiferentism, and (...) “atheistic life”—which are different responses tothe problem of grounding. These latter, while mistaken in their philosophical systems, arelegitimate because they are grounded on a fact of experience to which every human issubjected: he does not know if the power of the real will compel him to arrive at anabsolutely absolute reality.Zubiri sostiene que el problema de Dios, que se le plantea a todo hombre desde elapoderamiento que la realidad ejerce sobre él, tiene diversas soluciones. We begin by asking if philosophical reflection can reclaim the critical function it traditionally had and which is currently being questioned in certain hermeneutic sectors. Variousphilosophical trends that maintain this claim in the context of a reformed conception of“critical” are considered. Within this framework, we have included Liberation Philosophy , which we reconstruct from the standpoint of the methodologicalrequirements of conception and critical-rational action.Empezamos preguntando si la reflección filosófica puede salvar la función crítica que tradicionalmente ha tenido, lo que se (...) debate actualmente en ciertos sectores hermeneuticos. Se consideran varias tendencias filosoficas que mantienen esta posicion en el contexto de una concepción reformada de lo “crítico”. Dentro de este armazón, hemos incluido la filosofía de la liberación , qué reconstruimos desde el punto de vista de los requisitos metodológicos de concepción y de la acción crítico-racional. This paper analyzes and compares the philosophy of mathematics of Jean Ladrière andXavier Zubiri. The study focuses on the status of mathematical objects and truth, the method proper to mathematics and finally the relationship between formal systems and thephysical world. The philosophical context is the debate on the reality or ideality of mathematical objects and the four contemporary responses that dominated the 20th century:realism, naturalism, constructivism and conventionalism. These four responses face a series of limits and difficulties. Ladrière’s transcendental realism (...) and representational constructivism overcomes these difficulties. However, his position is characterized by a subtledualism between mathematical reality, which exists independently of our intellectual efforts, and our mathematical representations. Zubiri’s notion of sentient intelligence enableshim to surpass the difficulties confronted by the four contemporary responses withoutyielding to dualism. Zubiri’s philosophy of mathematics can be summarized with these twoaffirmations concerning mathematical reality: it is not separated from our intellectualefforts; it is constructed according to concepts of sentient intelligence.El presente artículo analiza y compara las filosofías de las matemáticas de Jean Ladriè-re y Xavier Zubiri. Este estudio está enfocado en el estatuto filosófico de los objetos y de laverdad matemática, el método matemático, y finalmente a la relación entre los sistemasformales y el mundo físico. El contexto filosófico es el debate sobre la realidad o la idealidadde los objetos matemáticos y las cuatro respuestas contemporáneas que dominaron el siglo20: el realismo, el naturalismo, el constructivismo y el convencionalismo. Estas cuatro respuestas presentan una serie de insuficiencias que ponen en duda sus tesis. Ladrière elabora una síntesis entre un realismo trascendental y un constructivismo de representacionesque supera dichas insuficiencias. Sin embargo, esta posición está caracterizada por undualismo sutil que separa la realidad matemática, de la cual se afirma que existe independientemente de nuestros esfuerzos intelectuales, y nuestras representaciones matemáticas.La inteligencia sentiente, presentada por Zubiri, supera las insuficiencias de las cuatrorespuestas contemporáneas sin caer en un dualismo. La filosofía de las matemáticas deZubiri puede resumirse con las siguientes afirmaciones: la realidad matemática no estáseparada de nuestra inteligencia; la misma es construida según conceptos de la inteligencia sentiente.
