Carlos Alberto Cardona - 2021 - Principia: An International Journal of Epistemology 25 (1).

On the Metaphysics of (Epistemological) Logical Anti-Exceptionalism.Evelyn Fernandes Erickson - 2021 - Principia: An International Journal of Epistemology 25 (1).
A recent logical anti-exceptionalist trend proposes that logical theories are revisable in the same manner as scientific theories, either on grounds of the method of theory selection or on what counts as evidence for this revision. Given this approximation of logic and science, the present essay analyzes the commitments of both these varieties and argues that, as it currently stands, this kind of anti-exceptionalism is committed to scientific realism, that is, to realism about some unobservable entities evoked in logical theories. (...)

    Antirrealismo E Expressivismo Lógico.Acácio Ferreira & Marcos Silva - 2021 - Principia: An International Journal of Epistemology 25 (1).

Malena León - 2021 - Principia: An International Journal of Epistemology 25 (1):91-124.
We aim to develop a take on the meaning of works of art that builds on Dennett’s view on the nature of intentionality, namely, that the intentionality exhibited by mental phenomena is not original, but derived. Regarding the meaning of works of art, theories that hold that the meaning is determined by the intentions of the author when creating the work are considered intentionalist. Adopting the view of derived intentionality implies that it is no longer possible to maintain that the (...)

Much Ado About the Many.Jonathan Mai - 2021 - Principia: An International Journal of Epistemology 25 (1).
English distinguishes between singular quantifiers like "a donkey" and plural quantifiers like "some donkeys". Pluralists hold that plural quantifiers range in an unusual, irreducibly plural, way over common objects, namely individuals from first-order domains and not over set-like objects. The favoured framework of pluralism is plural first-order logic, PFO, an interpreted first-order language that is capable of expressing plural quantification. Pluralists argue for their position by claiming that the standard formal theory based on PFO is both ontologically neutral and really (...)

  6. Logical Theory Revision Through Data Underdetermination: An Anti-Exceptionalist Exercise.Sanderson Molick - 2021 - Principia: An International Journal of Epistemology 25 (1).
The anti-exceptionalist debate brought into play the problem of what are the relevant data for logical theories and how such data affects the validities accepted by a logical theory. In the present paper, I depart from Laudan's reticulated model of science to analyze one aspect of this problem, namely of the role of logical data within the process of revision of logical theories. For this, I argue that the ubiquitous nature of logical data is responsible for the proliferation of several (...)

Individuals, Communities, and Groups in Thomas Kuhn’s Model of Scientific Development.Paulo Pirozelli - 2021 - Principia: An International Journal of Epistemology 25 (1).
In The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, Thomas Kuhn resorts to concepts from several disciplines in order to describe the general patterns of scientific development. This blend of disciplines can be explained in part by Kuhn's intellectual path, from physics to history and then to philosophy of science; but it also points to a deeper methodological problem, which is the question of what is the real unity of analysis in his model of science. The primary intention of this article is, thus, (...)

David Suarez-Rivero - 2021 - Principia: An International Journal of Epistemology 25 (1):157-174.
