Politiek denken tijdens het interbellum. De discussie tussen Carl Schmitt en Leo Strauss.Bart Raymaekers - 2006 - Wijsgerig Perspectief 46 (3):29-37.

Exemplars and Nudges: Combining Two Strategies for Moral Education.Engelen Bart, Thomas Alan, Alfred Archer & van de Ven Niels - 2018 - Journal of Moral Education 47 (3):346-365.
This article defends the use of narratives about morally exemplary individuals in moral education and appraises the role that ‘nudge’ strategies can play in combination with such an appeal to exemplars. It presents a general conception of the aims of moral education and explains how the proposed combination of both moral strategies serves these aims. An important aim of moral education is to make the ethical perspective of the subject—the person being educated—more structured, more salient and therefore more ‘navigable’. This (...)

Board Processes, Board Strategic Involvement, and Organizational Performance in For-Profit and Non-Profit Organizations.Hongjin Zhu, Pengji Wang & Chris Bart - 2016 - Journal of Business Ethics 136 (2):311-328.
Although corporate governance researchers have devoted considerable attention to the role of boards of directors in monitoring management and providing resources, less attention has been paid to whether and how they affect the strategic actions of firms in response to changing environments. Taking a process-based perspective, we examine how several prevalent board processes affect the involvement of boards in strategic decision-making and how such involvement shapes organizational performance. Moreover, we offer an initial attempt to compare the strategic role of boards (...)

Improving the Board's Involvement in Corporate Strategy: Directors Speak Out.Chris Bart - 2007 - International Journal of Business Governance and Ethics 3 (4):382-393.
Recent research by the author has established that boards have an important and significant role to play when it comes to their organisations' strategy and strategic planning process. But is there room for improvement? According to the directors that have participated in an ongoing research project, the answer is most definitely 'yes'. The current paper identifies and discusses the top 13 areas of improvement, which directors feel need to be addressed if their responsibility for strategy is to be exercised properly. (...)

The Precautionary Principle and Pesticides.Gremmen Bart & Belt Henk Van Den - 2000 - Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics 12 (2):197-205.
In 1998, Greenpeace, Natuur en Milieu(Nature and Environment), Milieudefensie(Environmental Defense), and the National ConsumersUnion presented a report about the possible risks andhazards associated with pesticide residues on fruitsand vegetables. Although these organizationsexplicitly denied having unassailable evidence on theharmful effects of pesticides, they claimed that bynow there are sufficient indications that pesticidesmay indeed lead to such health hazards. They used anappeal to the so-called precautionary principle tounderpin their claims. The committee officially incharge of deciding on the admission of pesticidesaccused the organizations (...)

An Empirical Examination of the Content and Composition of Board Charters.Chris Bart - 2006 - International Journal of Business Governance and Ethics 2 (s 3-4):198-216.
This article presents the findings from an exploratory empirical research investigation that assessed the content of selected Board Charters for 118 publicly traded companies listed on the TSX/S&P Composite Index. The Board Charter is considered to be the starting point in a Board's quest for creating a state of good governance within its organisation. However, the specific content of what a Board Charter actually contains has largely remained a mystery. The current study, therefore, was designed to identify what a typical (...)

  19. EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING AND THE TWO-FACTOR MODEL OF PSYCHOPATHY: NO DIFFERENTIAL RELATION?Mol Bart, Pancras van den Bos, Youri Derks & Jos Egger - 2009 - International Journal of Neuroscience 119:124–140.
There are indications that the interpersonal affective factor and the social deviation factor, both of which are underlying dimensions of psychopathy, have a positive and a negative relationship, respectively, with executive functioning. However, this is seldom taken into consideration in the research on the relationship between executive functioning and psychopathy, which may be an explanation for the many inconsistent results in this area as reported in the literature (e.g., Rogers, 2006). In the present study, executive functioning was studied using the (...)

The Classification of Recovered Memories: A Cautionary Note.Linsey Raymaekers, Tom Smeets, Maarten Jv Peters, Henry Otgaar & Harald Merckelbach - 2012 - Consciousness and Cognition 21 (4):1640-1643.
Traditionally, recovered memories of childhood sexual abuse have been classified as those emerging spontaneously versus those surfacing during the course of suggestive therapy. There are indications that reinterpretation of memories might be a third route to recovered memories. Thus, recovered memories do not form a homogeneous category. Nevertheless, the conceptual distinctions between the various types of recovered memories remain difficult for researchers and clinicians. With this in mind, the current study explored whether recovered memories can be reliably classified. We found (...)

The Governance Role of the Board in Corporate Strategy: An Initial Progress Report.Chris Bart - 2004 - International Journal of Business Governance and Ethics 1 (s 2-3):111-125.
This paper presents a preliminary progress report into the governance role that boards play (and should play) in the strategic planning process. It reports on whether the nature and degree of their involvement (or lack thereof) in certain strategic planning activities is positively associated with selected performance outcomes. The findings indicate that, surprisingly, a board's involvement in reviewing and discussing its organisation's financial statements may not be adding the kind of value that organisations look to receive from their board of (...)

In two studies, we explored whether susceptibility to false memories and the underestimation of prior memories tap overlapping memory phenomena. Study 1 investigated this issue by administering the Deese/Roediger–McDermott task and the forgot-it-all-along task to an undergraduate sample . It was furthermore explored how performances on these tasks correlate with clinically relevant traits such as fantasy proneness, dissociative experiences, and cognitive efficiency. Results show that FIA and DRM performances are relatively independent from each other, suggesting that these measures empirically apparently (...)
