Productivity of CNPq Researchers From Different Fields in Biomedical Sciences: The Need for Objective Bibliometric Parameters—A Report From Brazil.Jean Paul Kamdem, Daniel Henrique Roos, Adekunle Adeniran Sanmi, Luciana Calabró, Amos Olalekan Abolaji, Cláudia Sirlene de Oliveira, Luiz Marivando Barros, Antonia Eliene Duarte, Nilda Vargas Barbosa, Diogo Onofre Souza & João Batista Teixeira Rocha - 2019 - Science and Engineering Ethics 25 (4):1037-1055.
In Brazil, the CNPq provides grants, funds and fellowships to productive scientists to support their investigations. They are ranked and categorized into four hierarchical levels ranging from PQ 1A to PQ 1D. Few studies, however, report and analyse scientific productivity in different sub-fields of Biomedical Sciences, e.g., Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Biophysics and Physiology. In fact, systematic comparisons of productivity among the PQ 1 categories within the above sub-fields are lacking in the literature. Here, the scientific productivity of 323 investigators receiving PQ (...)

    Sosa's Responses to Dreaming Skepticism.Claudia Lorena García - 2010 - Critica 42 (125):3-25.
Ernest Sosa has proposed two different ways to respond to dreaming skepticism. In this paper I argue that Sosa's first response —which centers on holding that we have no beliefs in dreams— does not appear to be successful against either the hyperbolic or the realistic dreaming skeptic. I also argue that his second attempt to respond to the dreaming skeptic by arguing that perceptual knowledge indeed counts as what he calls "animal knowledge", may succeed but requires us to perform what (...)

In De Anima III 10, Aristotle introduces the notion of phantasía logistikē as one of the principles of rational action. On the basis of some texts from De Anima and the Nicomachean Ethics, the paper seeks to interpret the place of that type of imagination in practical reasoning. To that e ect, it rst sets forth Aristotle’s doctrine regarding the principles of action and the issue of their articulation, and then goes on to discuss the role of rational imagination in (...)

“Platonic Echoes in the 33-36 fragments of Aristotle’s Protrepticus”. Theaim of this paper is to examine the series of fragments 33-36 of the Protrepticusunder the light of a possible Platonic influence. Our thesis is that, despite the factthat the definition of science as the knowledge of causes and the identificationof these with the principles of reality is an essential conception of Platonism, thefact that we find in the Protrepticus the influence of this conception does not allowus to infer that Aristotle (...)

Designers acknowledge that their skills can assist the visualization and materialization of a desirable future and have gone as far as proposing that design can achieve societal change. Designing for a better world is associated with decreasing environmental depletion impacts while making good for both people and the environment, if possible. Evidently, this is a space where design deals with ethical matters, defining what is good or questioning if good has a universal meaning. This paper discusses the case of Aalto (...)

The article analizes the several times of Proclus‘s reception by Nicholas of Cusa’s thought. The direct reading of Proclus can be established because Expositio in Parmenidem Platonis –Cod.Cus. 186– and Elementatio theological –Cod.Cus.195– (Moerbeke’s translation) and De theologia Platonis Libri VI –Cod.Cus.185– (Petrus Balbus’s translation) are in his Library in Bernkastel-Kues with his marginalia. The assimilation of doctrines can be considered assuming that the implicits and explicits references to Plato’s Diadochus, especially in the last works.

_Logic and Pragmatism_ features a number of the key writings of Giovanni Vailati, the Italian mathematician and philosopher renowned for his work in mechanics, geometry, logic, and epistemology. The selections in this book—many of which are available here for the first time in English—focus on Vailati’s significant contributions to the field of pragmatism. Accompanying these pieces are introductory essays by the volume’s editors that outline the traits of Vailati’s pragmatism and provide insights into the scholar’s life.

This paper intends to analyze the basic assumptions that sustain John Locke’s refutation of patriarchalism. It will be shown that neither his idea of paternal power, nor his notion of family, departs from the lockean idea of human freedom. Against our expectations, these arguments go through a different path, departing from those two aspects of human life (dependency and weakness) that do not match with the image of an independent and capable man. Considering this, it will be possible to conclude (...)

This paper addresses the following questions from the point of view of Nietzsche’s philosophy: What is the mind, and which kind of relationship does it hold to the body? Accordingly, the aim of this paper is to show that Nietzsche’s philosophy suggested a view of the mind that allows to outline an alternative stance to both mentalism and physicalism, as well as to both dualism and reductionism. It is argued that Nietzsche’s rehabilitation of the body as the specific seat of (...)

The letters and other documents used from 1942 to 1965 also shed light on the personal life and work of those embroiled in this dispute, as well as their involvement in the public discussions of their day.

While there is a consensus that the requirement of respect is implied in this notion, it is controversial how this requirement is realized and fulfilled.

Phantasía logistikē in the Configuration of Desire in Aristotle.Claudia Carbonell - 2013 - Ideas Y Valores 62 (152):133-158.

  43. The Child as a Feminist Figuration: Toward a Politics of Privilege.Claudia CastaÒeda - 2001 - Feminist Theory 2 (1):29-53.
Who or what counts as a feminist subject? This article considers the place of the child, in particular, within the framework of feminist theories of the subject. Locating these theories in a framework of ‘oppositional’ theory, the article asks how and when the child appears in this field of theory. Although children’s oppression and representations of the child in culture have been continuously addressed in contemporary feminism at least since the 1970s, it is simultaneously the case that the child appears (...)

If green refuses to paint the leaves, will red still color blood? Literature and commitment in Sartre and Adorno.
In response to the question "What is literature?", Sartre proposes the concept of unity as (...)

Constructing “Classical” Philosophy.Claudia Beltrão - 2020 - Archai: Revista de Estudos Sobre as Origens Do Pensamento Ocidental 30:03012-03012.
Cicero’s philosophical works put on the scene intellectual debates among members of the Roman élite, displaying a balanced combination of intellectual skills, moral excellence and political expertise. Greek philosophy emerges as an important ally in Cicero's intellectual project, but not _in toto_. This paper deals with ways in which Cicero dismisses a _multitudo _of philosophers who churn out what he considers dangerous and stylistically inferior works. In this way, Cicero contributed to the creation of a “classical” philosophy that still guides (...)

Twentieth-century readers wondered if Nietzschean philosophy was apolitical, (...)

  50. Lines of Thought: Discourse, Architectonics, and the Origin of Modern Philosophy.Claudia Brodsky Lacour - 1996 - Duke University Press.
It is considerably easier to say that modern philosophy began with Descartes than it is to define the modernity and philosophy to which Descartes gave rise. In _Lines of Thought_, Claudia Brodsky Lacour describes the double origin of modern philosophy in Descartes’s _Discours de la méthode_ and _Géométrie_, works whose interrelation, she argues, reveals the specific nature of the modern in his thought. Her study examines the roles of discourse and writing in Cartesian method and intuition, and the significance (...)
