Transzendentale Momente der Physikbegründung deklarieren sich nicht immer offen als solche. Der Autor unternimmt den Versuch, Momente in der Theoriendynamik der Physik als in Wahrheit transzendental zu demaskieren. Fundamentale Merkmale in der Theoriendynamik lassen sich transzendental begründen. In dem Aufsatz werden die Anschlussfähigkeit einer Theorie an schon vorhandene und vergangene Theorien und damit die strukturelle Einheit und Einheitlichkeit wissenschaftlicher Erfahrungen transzendental begründet. Das wirft ein neues Licht auf die Rolle der Analogien in der heuristischen Herleitung von Theorien. Mit solchen analogiebasierten (...) Herleitungen versuchen die Forscher, die Unterbestimmtheit der Theorien durch die Daten zu unterlaufen. (shrink)

Der Geschichte des Begriffs des Naturgesetzes, besonders den Umständen seiner Durchsetzung, wird der systematische Hinweis entnommen, daß die generellen Sätze der Physik methodisch primär von Apparaten gelten. Daraus ergeben sich Gesichtspunkte für eine Hierarchisierung physikalischer Sätze. Eine technik-orientierte Deutung der Physik läßt dann auch die ökologische Dimension physikalischer Forschung in einem kritischeren Licht erscheinen.

Gegen das Programm einer Protophysik, wie es von der kontruktiven Wissenschaftstheorie der „Erlanger Schule“ entwickelt worden ist, wird häufig der Einwand erhoben, es unterwerfe die empirische Physik unzulässigen und forschungshemmenden normativen Restriktionen. Demgegenüber will die vorliegende Arbeit zeigen, daß die Protophysik nur eine normative Theorie der Grundgrößen und der „vollkommenen“ Meßgeräte ist, und der empirischen Physik damit ein methodisches Fundament verschafft, ansonsten aber ihr jegliche „Freiheit“ läßt.

Zusammenfassung In der wissenschaftlich-technischen Zivilisation verbindet sich ein Glaube an die Realitätsbeschreibung durch die Wissenschaften mit der Hoffnung auf eine ungehemmte Verbesserung der Welt mit Hilfe einer wissenschaftsbasierten Technik. Der Aufsatz versucht herauszuarbeiten, wie diese Verbindung wesentlich einen methodischen Atheismus und ein Projekt der Selbsterlösung des Menschen einschließt und wie dadurch der Glaube an die Wissenschaften und die Weltverbesserungshoffnung in eine dialektische Spannung zueinander geraten, die in ihrer Tiefendimension religiös ist.

Our fundamental theories about nature have to be established in laboratories under artificial conditions we seldom meet outside the labs. From this methodological fact does not follow that theories developed and tested in laboratories do not describe and explain nature outside the labs. But it is often impossible to apply that theories exactly and in full details to nature outside the laboratories. These limitations set to research on objects outside the labs have serious consequences for our contemporary civilization based on (...) science and technology how to deal with nature. German Die grundlegenden Theorien über die Natur können in der Regel nur unter den künstlichen Bedingungen des Labors aufgestellt werden, weil nur unter Laborbedingungen ablaufende Prozesse die Eigenschaften besitzen, die sie für uns zu theoriefähigen Gegenständen machen. Daraus darf nicht geschlossen werden, die anhand von Laborphänomenen aufgestellten und getesteten Theorien handelten nicht von der Natur außerhalb der Labore. Aber ihrer exakten und detaillierten Anwendung auf Prozesse außerhalb der Labore stehen eine Fülle von Schwierigkeiten entgegen. Insofern markiert das Labor sehr wohl eine Grenze exakter Naturforschung, die für den Umgang der wissenschaftlich-technischen Zivilisation mit der Natur wichtige Konsequenzen hat. (shrink)

Summary This paper examines the three central theses of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics. (1) Quantum mechanics must make use of concepts of classical physics; (2) descriptions which in classical physis are mutually exclusive are complementary descriptions of the same objects in quantum mechanics; (3) the uncertainty relations are natural laws which determine the limits of the application of classical concepts to micro-physical objects. Usually, these central theses of the Copenhagen interpretation are interpreted in a realistic-ontological manner. This paper (...) criticizes this position, and, by means of a comparative investigation of the function of models in classical physics and quantum mechanics, proposes a model-theoretic interpretation. _ Source: _Volume 95, Issue 2, pp 287 - 299 Holm Tetens attempts to define ‘god’ as part of his rational theology. The term ‘god’ is supposed to be defined as ‘the infinite I-subject’. This should be achieved through the customary definition of a singular term by description. However, definitions of this kind have to meet certain formal requirements, which a Rational Theology should adhere to. This paper aims to show that Tetens’ definition faces problems with these (...) requirements since vital arguments are either missing or incomplete in a substantial way. In the process, possible approaches to remedy the outlined problems are hinted at. Overall, this paper raises the question of an alternative interpretation of his definition of god, which is central to the author’s project.Holm Tetens versucht im Rahmen seiner rationalen Theologie, eine Definition Gottes vorzulegen. Die Konstante ‚Gott‘ soll als ‚das unendliche Ich-Subjekt‘ definiert werden. Dies soll nach dem üblichen Schema der Definition einer Individuenkonstante über eine Beschreibung erfolgen. Für derartige Setzungen gibt es jedoch formale Voraussetzungen, die gerade unter dem Anspruch, eine rationale Theologie vorzulegen, eingehalten werden sollten. Nachfolgend soll gezeigt werden, dass Tetens’ Definition unter diesen Voraussetzungen problematisch ist, da erforderliche Argumentationen entweder fehlen oder in einem kritischen Maße unvollständig sind. Dabei werden auch Maßnahmen zur Behebung der aufgezeigten Mängel angedeutet, wie etwa die vom Autor stillschweigend vorausgesetzten Aussagen explizit zu machen. SummaryIn Germany, Holm Tetens is an influential analytic philosopher of science, mind, and logic. For many years he had been arguing within the widely accepted framework of naturalism and atheism. It came, to put it mildly, as a surprise to the entire philosophical community in Germany when he published a book defending theism in 2015. In this book “Thinking God” he claims that physicalism is an incomplete account of reality, because the mental and ideal realm cannot be reduced (...) to the physical realm. As an alternative, he develops a version of theistic idealism which stands in the tradition of “panentheism”. Human subjectivity is fully embedded into the all-encompassing divine subjectivity. In dealing with the problem of theodicy, he then argues that the hope for eternal life and salvation by a supremely good being makes life more meaningful, esp. because it offers a prospect for justice to the countless victims of history. To Tetens, the worldview of naturalism and the worldview of theistic idealism are on the one hand both equally rational and defensible. On the other hand, both cannot be defeated by knock-down arguments. In closing, he urges his peers in philosophy to take the question of God seriously again. Shortly after the publication of the book, the Catholic Academy of Bavaria and the Munich School of Philosophy jointly organized an international master class on Tetens’s views which was taught by himself. The papers published in this issue grew out of this master class. For each paper by a young scholar there is also a reply by Tetens. The following editorial addresses specifically the German-speaking audience. It was thus not translated into English. All original papers discussing Tetens’s views and his replies to these, however, were written in English for the sake of reaching a larger worldwide readership. (shrink)

Holm Tetens, a philosopher from Berlin, reasons for the existence of God. In contrast to classical arguments for God’s existence, he uses a comparative way of reasoning. Tetens starts with naturalism, the prevalent metaphysics of present times, and tries to show that in comparison to that, theism is the more reasonable choice. Neither naturalism nor theism can be proven. Thus, Tetens has to find different criterion in other to show that theism is more reasonable than naturalism. (...) In his understanding, a human being is a morally responsible I–subject. Unlike naturalism, theism is compatible with this philosophical anthropology, making it the more reasonable metaphysic. This article aims to trace back Tetens argument and examines his claim that no metaphysic can pe proven by empirical data.
