  2. Hard and Soft Accidental Uniformities.Eduardo H. Flichman - 1995 - Philosophy of Science 62 (1):31-43.
I discuss some aspects of the epistemological distinction between laws of nature and accidental uniformities. In order that the exposition be self-contained I briefly provide a taxonomy proposed in another work for statements that appear in a scientific theory. Once this taxonomy has been presented I attempt to prove two very different types of accidental uniformities: hard and soft. The distinction is fundamental because the latter have frequently been confused with laws of nature. I try to justify why I believe (...)

Newton's Dynamics, Kuhn, and Incommensurability.Eduardo H. Flichman - 2001 - The Proceedings of the Twentieth World Congress of Philosophy 2001:89-96.
In this paper I will attempt to show how incommensurability between theories is usually manifested, framing this notion in a sense similar to the Kuhnian one in certain aspects, though very different in others. Further, I will show that it is possible, and desirable, to rid Kuhn’s thesis of the idea that in many important theories a certain part of the theoretical nucleus partially contains in a more or less vague sense, synthetic a priori or even analytic statements. Alternatively, I (...)

The Function of Perplexity.Eduardo H. Flichman - 2006 - The Proceedings of the Twenty-First World Congress of Philosophy 4:23-27.
I present one specific way of creating problematic situations: generating perplexity. A teacher with a personal history marked by a struggle to conceptualise the words of the professor or of the book, will have paved his way. The teacher develops his subject clearly. When the students say they understand, it is time to show an apparently paradoxical situation. Perplexity appears. The teacher again explains the subject and all accept again that they understand perfectly. But the difficulty doesn't disappear. The debate (...)

Uniformidades accidentales duras y blandas.

Erster Theil Halle, 1888. This Little Book (of Only 215 Pages) is a New Recension of Schweizer-Sidler's Latin Elementar Und Formenlehre Published in 1869. The Importance of the Present Volume is That its Writers Have Entirely Recast Their Theory of Latin Morphology in Accordance with the Procedure of the New School of Comparative Philology. It is Much to Be Hoped That Some Competent English or American Scholar Will Either Translate the Book Into English, or Write an Original Work of the Same Character. [REVIEW]N.

    Mechanistic Slumber Vs. Statistical Insomnia: The Early Phase of Boltzmann’s H-Theorem (1868-1877).Massimiliano Badino - 2011 - European Physical Journal - H 36 (3):353-378.
An intricate, long, and occasionally heated debate surrounds Boltzmann’s H-theorem (1872) and his combinatorial interpretation of the second law (1877). After almost a century of devoted and knowledgeable scholarship, there is still no agreement as to whether Boltzmann changed his view of the second law after Loschmidt’s 1876 reversibility argument or whether he had already been holding a probabilistic conception for some years at that point. In this paper, I argue that there was no abrupt statistical turn. In the first (...)
