    Vision-Centrality and the Reflexive-Identity of External Object.Zhai Zhenming & Wang Xiulu - 2008 - Frontiers of Philosophy in China 3 (1):55 - 66.
The correspondence of a sensory object to the category of a descriptive statement requires a reflexive-identity of the object, and such a reflexive-identity is primarily based on the cognition of spatiality. Spatiality is, however, constituted through visual perception. There are only two occasions on which definitive reflexive-identity is exemplified: the infinitesimal point and the infinite "One," and others are just human stipulations that meet pragmatic needs of rough identification of things at hand. However, if a spatial point is not different (...)

No Ethical Divide Between China and the West in Human Embryo Research.Xiaomei Zhai, Vincent Ng & Reidar Lie - 2016 - Developing World Bioethics 16 (2):116-120.
This is a discussion of the reaction to the recent research article publication in the journal Protein & Cell by a group of scientists at Sun Yat-sen University using the CRISPR/Cas9 technique on editing non-viable human zygotes. Many commentators condemned the Chinese scientists for overstepping ethical boundaries long accepted in Western countries and accused China of having lax regulations on genomic research in general. We argue that not only did this research follow strict ethical standards and fully comply with current (...)

Workplace Guanxi: Its Dispositional Antecedents and Mediating Role in the Affectivity–Job Satisfaction Relationship. [REVIEW]Qingguo Zhai, Margaret Lindorff & Brian Cooper - 2013 - Journal of Business Ethics 117 (3):541-551.
This paper examines dispositional sources of workplace guanxi and the mediating role of workplace guanxi on the affectivity and job satisfaction relationship. Data were collected from 808 respondents in multiple industries in a city in China’s northeast. The study found that both positive affectivity and negative affectivity have an effect on supervisor–subordinate guanxi and co-worker guanxi, which supports the proposition that workplace guanxi has a dispositional source. Supervisor–subordinate guanxi has a positive relationship with job satisfaction, although co-worker guanxi is not (...)

    Bentham’s Exposition of Common Law.Xiaobo Zhai - 2017 - Law and Philosophy 36 (5):525-560.
Bentham is a severe critic of common law, denouncing it as ‘sham law’. Bentham’s denunciation of common law as ‘sham law’ is, however, an evaluative censure, not a descriptive account. A realistic account of the nature of common law can be constructed from his writings. According to this account, first, common law is a collection of authoritative mandates. Second, judicial decisions do not evidence common law; on the contrary, judges, through their decisions, create common law by means of legalizing both (...)

Differentiating the Personalized Information of the Physician-Patient Communication for the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease with General Probabilistic Vector Linguistic Terms.Yuling Zhai, Zeshui Xu & Peijia Ren - 2019 - Complexity 2019:1-21.
To accurately determine the follow-up therapeutic schedules for the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients, this paper aims to develop the analysis tools for the linguistic evaluation to improve the quality of the physician-patient communication. Firstly, we define the general probabilistic vector linguistic term, which is effective to depict people’s judgements from different sources. Then, we establish the multigranularity linguistic space and discuss the different forms of the probabilistic vector linguistic units in it. Later on, we propose the nondirectional and the (...)

    Mei Symmetry and New Conserved Quantities of Time-Scale Birkhoff’s Equations.Xiang-Hua Zhai & Yi Zhang - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-7.
The time-scale dynamic equations play an important role in modeling complex dynamical processes. In this paper, the Mei symmetry and new conserved quantities of time-scale Birkhoff’s equations are studied. The definition and criterion of the Mei symmetry of the Birkhoffian system on time scales are given. The conditions and forms of new conserved quantities which are found from the Mei symmetry of the system are derived. As a special case, the Mei symmetry of time-scale Hamilton canonical equations is discussed and (...)

    The Transformation of Poṣadha/Zhai in Early Medieval China.Yi Ding - 2019 - Buddhist Studies Review 36 (1):71-98.
This article attempts to disentangle the semantics of zhai? in early medieval China, mostly from the third century to the sixth, by examining both Indian and Chinese Buddhist sources. It demonstrates that semantic shifts in the term reflect a changing ritual context, as Chinese Buddhism rapidly took form. The article consists of two parts. The first part looks into how the Po?adha S?tra was first introduced to China and how the word po?adha was employed in early?gama scriptures and the (...)

A Survey of the Perspectives of Patients Who Are Seriously Ill Regarding End-of-Life Decisions in Some Medical Institutions of Korea, China and Japan.Kwon Ivo, Koh Younsuck, Yun Young Ho, Suh Sang-Yeon, Heo Dae Seog, Bae Hyunah, Hattori Kenji & Zhai Xiaomei - 2012 - Journal of Medical Ethics 38 (5):310-316.
Purpose The debate about the end-of-life care decision is becoming a serious ethical and legal concern in the Far-Eastern countries of Korea, China and Japan. However, the issues regarding end-of-life care will reflect the cultural background, current medical practices and socioeconomic conditions of the countries, which are different from Western countries and between each other. Understanding the genuine thoughts of patients who are critically ill is the first step in confronting the issues, and a comparative descriptive study of these perspectives (...)

  44. An Integral Boundary Value Problem of Fractional Differential Equations with a Sign-Changed Parameter in Banach Spaces.Chen Yang, Yaru Guo & Chengbo Zhai - 2021 - Complexity 2021:1-10.
This paper is to investigate the existence and uniqueness of solutions for an integral boundary value problem of new fractional differential equations with a sign-changed parameter in Banach spaces. The main used approach is a recent fixed point theorem of increasing Ψ − h, r -concave operators defined on ordered sets. In addition, we can present a monotone iterative scheme to approximate the unique solution. In the end, two simple examples are given to illustrate our main results.

    Context Effects and Spoken Word Recognition of Chinese: An Eye‐Tracking Study.Michael C. W. Yip & Mingjun Zhai - 2018 - Cognitive Science 42 (S4):1134-1153.
This study examined the time-course of context effects on spoken word recognition during Chinese sentence processing. We recruited 60 native Mandarin listeners to participate in an eye-tracking experiment. In this eye-tracking experiment, listeners were told to listen to a sentence carefully, which ended with a Chinese homophone, and look at different visual probes presented concurrently on the computer screen naturally. Different types of context and probe types were manipulated in the experiment. The results showed that preceding sentence context had an (...)

Generation of Tunable Microwave Frequency Comb Utilizing a Semiconductor Laser Subject to Optical Injection From an SFP Module Modulated by an Arbitrary Periodic Signal.Qingchun Zhao, Maohai Zhai, Wenbo Shi & Bin Wu - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-7.
In this paper, a microwave frequency comb is generated from a semiconductor laser subject to optical injection from a commercial small form-factor pluggable optical module which is modulated by an arbitrary periodic signal. A sinusoidal signal or square wave signal is employed as the arbitrary periodic signal instead of the electric pulse signal adopted in the former references. When the frequency of the modulated signal is 1 GHz, the MFC with a maximal bandwidth of 15 GHz can be obtained. In (...)
