  1. Introduction: Symposium Limitarianism: Extreme Wealth as a Moral Problem.Dick Timmer & Christian Neuhäuser - forthcoming - Ethical Theory and Moral Practice.
The growing concentration of wealth has acquired a new urgency in recent years. One particular view in this context is developed by Ingrid Robeyns in her ground-breaking work on limitarianism. According to this view, no one should have more than a certain amount of valuable goods, such as income and wealth. The contributors to this symposium, Brian Berkey, David Axelsen and Lasse Nielsen, Jessica Flanigan and Christopher Freiman, and Lena Halldenius, critically examine various aspects of limitarianism. In particular, they examine (...)

  4. Propaganda, fiscalidad y teología. Un inédito de Domingo Báñez sobre el servicio de millones en Burgos.David Torrijos Castrillejo - 2022 - Investigaciones Históricas, Época Moderna y Contemporánea 42:353-386.
The subject matter of this article is a pamphlet printed in 1597 by the Corregidor of Burgos, Diego de Vargas Manrique. The document intends to persuade the aldermen of Burgos to grant the controversial servicio de millones. For this purpose, the Corregidor prints, together with his speeches, the opinions of various theologians. An opinion written by Domingo Báñez supporting the servicio de millones with certain reasons stands out for its length. After some historical context and the description of the document, (...)

While it will certainly stimulate conversation and debate, it is balanced and moderate in its tone. But this is not (...)

  7. Melioristic Genealogies and Indigenous Philosophies.Helen De Cruz & Johan De Smedt - 2023 - Philosophical Forum:1-18.
According to Mary Midgley, philosophy is like plumbing: like the invisible entrails of an elaborate plumbing system, philosophical ideas respond to basic needs that are fundamental to human life. Melioristic projects in philosophy attempt to fix or reroute this plumbing. An obstacle to melioristic projects is that the sheer familiarity of the underlying philosophical ideas renders the plumbing invisible. Philosophical genealogies aim to overcome this by looking at the origins of our current concepts. We discuss philosophical concepts developed in Indigenous (...)

Series: Philosophy, Philosophy of Law, Political Science, Sociology : The Collection of Scientific Papers 240:204-217.
The article examines the peculiarities of state-church relations that are formed in the process of legitimizing civil society. This, of course, prompts a new assessment of the status of religion and the church in the modern political system and (...)

I then argue that this view illuminates three ethical puzzles concerning the standards for a life worth living for animals, (...)

  10. Danse Macabre: Levity and Morality in a Plague Year.Simone Gubler - forthcoming - In Evandro Barbosa (ed.), Pandemic Relations. New York, NY, USA: Routledge.

  15. On the Injustice of Dysfunctional Upbringing.Areti Theofilopoulou - 2022 - Journal of Applied Philosophy 39 (5):915-931.

  18. Perpetuation as Perpetration: Wrongful Benefit and Responsibility for Historical Injustice.Kristofer J. Petersen-Overton - 2022 - Contemporary Political Theory 21 (4):545-566.
Do those of us living in the present have an obligation to rectify injustices committed by others in the distant past? This article is an attempt to revisit the problem of historical injustice by bringing together recent work on structural injustice in relation to the problem of wrongful benefit. The problem of benefitting from injustice, I argue, provides firmer grounds of obligation in forward-looking accounts of responsibility for historical injustice specifically. I argue (1) that if the negative effects of historical (...)

It argues that Deleuze adopts a sonic-musical vocabulary to account for the affective and corporeal dimensions of politics or the ways that bodies and nonconscious forces shape political and epistemological experience. Suggesting that sonic expressions operate on both the musical and the linguistic register and inflect bodies before being consciously recognized, the article thus explores how the sound flows involved in political assemblages also find entrance into philosophical concepts. 20. Valuation Practices and the Cooptation Charge: Quantification and Monetization as Political Logics.Jason Glynos & Savvas Voutyras - 2022 - Contemporary Political Theory 21 (4):588-610.
Market-like devices that enact quantification and monetization processes (QM) underpin a growing number of valuation practices, but the widespread take-up of QM has given rise to the ‘cooptation charge’: for all the good intentions and results produced by those who deploy QM, they are complicit in reinforcing problematic neoliberal tendencies. A political discourse-theoretical perspective, combined with a pragmatist scholarship that has made significant advances in our understanding of QM, suggests that the cooptation charge relies on an overly simplified picture of (...)

  21. The Sumud Within: Walid Daka’s Abolitionist Decolonization.Shai Gortler - 2022 - Contemporary Political Theory 21 (4):499-521.
The texts of Walid Daka, a Palestinian political prisoner incarcerated since 1986, challenge the notion that colonial power ends with decolonization and expose the shortcomings of examining colonial prisons solely through the eliminatory prism of death and deprivation. Studying Daka’s texts, the article presents how the Israeli carceral system has managed to utilize prisoners’ hopes and longings – in their relations with one another, their political actions such as hunger strikes or their building of internal leadership hierarchies, and their affective (...)
