  1. Why Expressive Suppression Does Not Pay? Cognitive Costs of Negative Emotion Suppression: The Mediating Role of Subjective Tense-Arousal.Tomasz Maruszewski & Dorota Szczygieł - 2015 - Polish Psychological Bulletin 46 (3):336-349.
The aim of this paper was to contribute to a broader understanding of the cognitive consequences of expressive suppression. Specifically, we examined whether the deteriorating effect of expressive suppression on cognitive functioning is caused by tense arousal enhanced by suppression. Two experiments were performed in order to test this prediction. In both studies we tested the effect of expressive suppression on working memory, as measured with a backwards digit-span task and anagram problem-solving task. In addition, in Study 2 we tested (...)

  • Emotional Intelligence Mitigates the Effects of Customer Incivility on Surface Acting and Exhaustion in Service Occupations: A Moderated Mediation Model.Dorota Daniela Szczygiel & Róz·A. Bazińska - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
This study contributes to the constantly accumulating evidence on the effects of customer incivility on service employee exhaustion. Previous research has demonstrated that surface acting acts as a mediating variable in the relationship between CI and exhaustion. This study extended prior findings in two ways. The results of Study 1 demonstrated that SA mediates the positive relationship between CI and exhaustion while controlling for employees’ trait positive and negative affectivity. The results of Study 2 supported a moderated mediation model demonstrating (...)

  • How Do Negative Emotions Regulate the Effects of Workplace Aggression on Counterproductive Work Behaviours?Łukasz Baka - 2015 - Polish Psychological Bulletin 46 (3):326-335.
The theoretical framework of the study was the Stressors-Emotions model. The aim of the study was to investigate the mediating role of job-related negative affectivity, and the moderating role of emotional suppression in the relationship between workplace aggression and counterproductive work behaviour. It was expected that workplace aggression would be linked to CWB directly and indirectly and that suppression of negative emotions would intensify the effects of workplace aggression. Two hundred and five nurses participated in the study. The regression analysis (...)

  • Psychometric Properties of the Polish Version of the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form.Agata Wytykowska, Aleksandra Jasielska & Dorota Szczygieł - 2015 - Polish Psychological Bulletin 46 (3):447-459.
The study was aimed at validating the Polish version of the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form. Our findings confirm the reliability and validity of the scale. With respect to reliability, internal consistency coefficients of the TEIQue-SF were comparable to those obtained using the original English version. The evidence of the validity of the TEIQue-SF came from the pattern of relations with the other self-report measure of EI, personality measures, as well as affective and social correlates. We demonstrated that the TEIQue-SF (...)
