  • Articulated Homogeneity in Cumulative Sentences.Keny Chatain - 2022 - Journal of Semantics 39 (1):1-37.
In this work, I use cumulative readings of every as a tool to investigate homogeneity in cumulative readings in general. Based on a new observation about the homogeneity properties of cumulative readings of every, I argue that the homogeneity properties of cumulative readings arise from the interaction of multiple operators, each operator contributing one exhaustive participation inference which disappears in negative contexts. I identify these operators with the thematic role heads in a Neo-Davidsonian semantics. The resulting theory is able to (...)

  • From N to N: The Anatomy of a Construction. [REVIEW]Joost Zwarts - 2013 - Linguistics and Philosophy 36 (1):65-90.
This paper develops a detailed and unified analysis of semantics of the from-N-to-N construction, based on a small number of ingredients, none of which are specific to this construction itself, but which are idiomatically packaged in this construction. Letting the construction uniformly apply to the product of the two nouns not only captures their strong relation, but it also obviates a role for a ‘reduplicative’ mechanism of some sort in this particular construction.

  • The Diachronic Semantics of English Again.Sigrid Beck & Remus Gergel - 2015 - Natural Language Semantics 23 (3):157-203.
This paper explores the diachronic development of the English adverb again. A compositional semantic analysis of its grammar at various stages is provided. It is argued that this analysis must consist of a staging of first a lexical and then a structural change, in order to adequately model the sequence of individual developmental steps observed in the historical corpus data, and that it provides an insight into pathways of semantic change in general.
