  1. Revisiting Human-Agent Communication: The Importance of Joint Co-Construction and Understanding Mental States.Stefan Kopp & Nicole Krämer - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
The study of human-human communication and the development of computational models for human-agent communication have diverged significantly throughout the last decade. Yet, despite frequently made claims of “super-human performance” in, e.g., speech recognition or image processing, so far, no system is able to lead a half-decent coherent conversation with a human. In this paper, we argue that we must start to re-consider the hallmarks of cooperative communication and the core capabilities that we have developed for it, and which conversational agents (...)

  • Enactivism and Robotic Language Acquisition: A Report From the Frontier.Frank Förster - 2019 - Philosophies 4 (1):11-0.
In this article, I assess an existing language acquisition architecture, which was deployed in linguistically unconstrained human–robot interaction, together with experimental design decisions with regard to their enactivist credentials. Despite initial scepticism with respect to enactivism’s applicability to the social domain, the introduction of the notion of participatory sense-making in the more recent enactive literature extends the framework’s reach to encompass this domain. With some exceptions, both our architecture and form of experimentation appear to be largely compatible with enactivist tenets. (...)

  • Further to the Left: Stress-Induced Increase of Spatial Pseudoneglect During the COVID-19 Lockdown.Federica Somma, Paolo Bartolomeo, Federica Vallone, Antonietta Argiuolo, Antonio Cerrato, Orazio Miglino, Laura Mandolesi, Maria Clelia Zurlo & Onofrio Gigliotta - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
BackgroundThe measures taken to contain the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, such as the lockdown in Italy, do impact psychological health; yet, less is known about their effect on cognitive functioning. The transactional theory of stress predicts reciprocal influences between perceived stress and cognitive performance. However, the effects of a period of stress due to social isolation on spatial cognition and exploration have been little examined. The aim of the present study was to investigate the possible effects and impact of the (...)
