  1. Corporate Citizenship and Employee Outcomes: Does a High-Commitment Work System Matter?Yi-Ting Lin & Nien-Chi Liu - 2019 - Journal of Business Ethics 156 (4):1079-1097.
Interest in corporate citizenship has been burgeoning in the academic and managerial realms for decades. While a psychological CC climate has been conceptualized and has received empirical support for its relationship with employee outcomes, the organizational climate perspective of CC has not yet been explored. In the present study, we develop and examine a mediated moderation model that elaborates the underlying psychological process and the contingency of organizational CC climate and its individual outcomes. We follow 539 employees in 26 firms (...)

  • Towards an Appreciation of Ethics in Social Enterprise Business Models.Mike Bull & Rory Ridley-Duff - forthcoming - Journal of Business Ethics:1-16.
How can a critical analysis of entrepreneurial intention inform an appreciation of ethics in social enterprise business models? In answering this question, we consider the ethical commitments that inform entrepreneurial action and the hybrid organisations that emerge out of these commitments and actions. Ethical theory can be a useful way to reorient the field of social enterprise so that it is more critical of bureaucratic and market-driven enterprises connected to neoliberal doctrine. Social enterprise hybrid business models are therefore reframed as (...)

  • Towards a Framework for Understanding Fairtrade Purchase Intention in the Mainstream Environment of Supermarkets.Fred Amofa Yamoah, Rachel Duffy, Dan Petrovici & Andrew Fearne - 2016 - Journal of Business Ethics 136 (1):181-197.
Despite growing interest in ethical consumer behaviour research, ambiguity remains regarding what motivates consumers to purchase ethical products. While researchers largely attribute the growth of ethical consumerism to an increase in ethical consumer concerns and motivations, widened distribution of ethical products, such as fairtrade, questions these assumptions. A model that integrates both individual and societal values into the theory of planned behaviour is presented and empirically tested to challenge the assumption that ethical consumption is driven by ethical considerations alone. Using (...)

  • Corporate Volunteering: A Bibliometric Analysis From 1990 to 2015.Suska Dreesbach‐Bundy & Barbara Scheck - 2017 - Business Ethics: A European Review 26 (3):240-256.
This article describes a quantitative examination of corporate volunteering research in the form of a bibliometric analysis. Using author, journal, geography, epistemological, and industry data from 115 refereed and 445 non-refereed publications published during 1990–2015, we identify corporate volunteering as a rather young research field. Although the field has progressively developed, it is still limited in magnitude, with recent signs of stagnation. The current state is characterized by moderate publication and author activity rates, with a shift toward more peer-reviewed publications (...)

  • The Roles of HRM in CSR: Strategic Partnership or Operational Support?Harsha Sarvaiya, Gabriel Eweje & Jim Arrowsmith - 2018 - Journal of Business Ethics 153 (3):825-837.
As the implementation of corporate social responsibility strategy requires promoting employee participation and initiating meaningful changes in organisational culture, the involvement of the human resource management function in policy formulation and implementation is highly desirable. The relationship between the HRM and CSR functions is, however, under-investigated than other areas. Hence, there is a lack of clarity concerning HRM roles and the conditions under which they may be strategic or operational in nature. By drawing on data from interviews with 29 CSR (...)

  • Do Entrepreneurial SMEs Perform Better Because They Are More Responsible?Jean-Marie Courrent, Sonia Chassé & Waleed Omri - 2018 - Journal of Business Ethics 153 (2):317-336.
Many scholars have investigated the direct impact of entrepreneurial orientation on performance, but this direct association seems both spurious and ambiguous because many parameters may have an indirect influence on this relationship. The present study thus considers sustainable practices—environmental practices, social practices in the workplace, and social practices in the community —as three probable mediators in the relationship between EO and performance, which is considered in terms of its financial and non-financial dimensions. We seek to show to what extent small- (...)
