  1. Corporate Philanthropy Through the Lens of Ethical Subjectivity.Claudia Eger, Graham Miller & Caroline Scarles - 2019 - Journal of Business Ethics 156 (1):141-153.
The dynamic organisational processes in businesses dilute the boundaries between the individual, organisational, and societal drivers of corporate philanthropy. This creates a complex framework in which charitable project selection occurs. Using the example of European tour operators, this study investigates the mechanisms through which companies invest in charitable projects in overseas destinations. Inextricably linked to this is the increasing contestation by local communities as to how they are able to engage effectively with tourism in order to realise the benefits tourism (...)

  • Integrative Live Case: A Contemporary Business Ethics Pedagogy.G. Venkat Raman, Swapnil Garg & Sneha Thapliyal - 2019 - Journal of Business Ethics 155 (4):1009-1032.
Disparate attempts exist to identify the key components that make an ethics pedagogy more effective and efficient. To integrate these attempts, a review of 408 articles published in leading journals is conducted. The key foci of extant literature are categorized into three domains labeled as approach, content, and delivery, and a comprehensive framework for ethics pedagogy developed. Within each of these domains, binaries that reflect two alternatives are identified. Approach, the philosophical standpoint, can be theory-laden or real-world connected. Content, the (...)

  • An Investigation of the Relationships Among Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Participation and Ethical Judgment and Decision Making.Anne L. Christensen & Angela Woodland - 2018 - Journal of Business Ethics 147 (3):529-543.
The Pathways Commission calls on accounting educators to develop students’ skills in ethical judgment and decision making, but there is uncertainty about how best to accomplish this task. We test if participation in Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programs is positively associated with students’ ethical judgment and decision making. Using a questionnaire administered to students participating in VITA and students not participating in VITA at seven universities, we form multiple measures of students’ ethical judgment and students’ ethical decision making. Regression analyses (...)

  • The Assessment of Individual Moral Goodness.B. Chiu Raymond & D. Hackett Rick - 2017 - Business Ethics: A European Review 26 (1):31-46.
In a field dominated by research on moral prescription and moral prediction, there is poor understanding of the place of moral perceptions in organizations alongside philosophical ethics and causal models of ethical outcomes. As leadership failures continue to plague organizational health and firms recognize the wide-ranging impact of subjective bias, scholars and practitioners need a renewed frame of reference from which to reconceptualize their current understanding of ethics as perceived in individuals. Based on an assessment and selection perspective from the (...)

  • Developing Ethical Confidence: The Impact of Action-Oriented Ethics Instruction in an Accounting Curriculum.Anne Christensen, Jane Cote & Claire Kamm Latham - 2018 - Journal of Business Ethics 153 (4):1157-1175.
While there is considerable support for integrating ethics education in accounting curricula, research presents conflicting evidence on how best to incorporate it. A review of accounting ethics scholarship highlights criticisms of the literature, including limited research into actual behavior and a lack of theory. We report the results of a study that is theory based, captures behaviors rather than attitudes, and explores the effect of repeated practice to develop voice efficacy. We examine the impact of two types of ethics instructions. (...)
