Job-hopping is an unavoidable phenomenon in the current globalization era. Nevertheless, the research on job-hopping has been mostly quantitative in nature and rarely conducted on emerging economies. This study investigates the job-hopping phenomenon in Indonesia using the phenomenology approach. Using a semi-structured interview process, data were collected from eight participants consisting of three males and five females aged 27 to 36 years, all of whom had job-hopped at least three times during the last five years. The findings reveal that there (...) are country-specific antecedents of jobhopping that might not be found in other cultural contexts, like the powerful magnets of keeping one’s ideals pure and not attenuating family ties. The implications for theory and practice are also discussed. This study investigates job-hopping using a phenomenological approach. This approach enables this study to incorporate detailed nuances into our understanding of job-hopping through the experiencer’s point of view.
