Abstract
Professor Warnke is well known for his studies of grotteschi, where he has demonstrated in detail the abundance of forms and motifs that a certain type of “work of the imagination” may produce. One cannot, therefore, but admire the ease with which he has taken us through the centuries in the history of this domain. Since I am essentially convinced by Warnke’s conclusions, my few brief comments will be concerned mainly with contexts.
