- Abstract
This article studies the project to eradicate hunger in less developed countries by the free global flow of transgenic foods, a project full of promises, concerns and new challenges. The groups supporters argue that opposing GM food is equivalent to giving back to the progress, development, modernity and technoscientific advances. Critics claim that the purpose of the biotechnology industry pose a serious threat to the future of the most impoverished communities. Specifically, we analyze the sending of GM maize, by U.S. government, as humanitarian food aid to a set of countries in southern Africa. Thus, we explain the mistake of thinking biotechnology as an aseptic and depoliticized tool, and of conceiving the work of experts in contemporary societies from a purely rational and objective perspective.
