지식의 네트워크화가 진행되면서 지식의 형성, 유통, 습득의 전 과정이 변화하고 있다. 인터넷 연결망으로 인해 집단적인 지식산출과 유통이 가능해진 상황에서, 대규모 지식 협업은 흥미로운 철학적 탐구의 대상이 된다. 이 글은 망상연결된 지식이 제기하는 여러 가지 인식론적 물음에 답하려는 한 가지 시도로서, 위키백과에 초점을 맞추어 사회인식론적 탐구를 수행한다. 먼저, 나는 위키백과의 문서들이 증언의 성격을 가지는지 검토하고, 적어도 그 일부 문서는 위키백과 공동체라는 집단적 인식주체의 증언일 수 있다고 주장한다. 둘째, 위키백과 문서들의 신뢰성을 검토하고, 전반적인 신뢰성에도 불구하고 능동적인 읽기 훈련이 필요하다고 주장한다. 셋째, 정확성을 높이려는 여러 시도들은 위키백과의 이상인 지식의 민주화에 부합하지 않음을 드러낸다. 끝으로, 망상연결된 사회에서 정보의 교환뿐 아니라 이유의 교환이 필요함을 주장한다.

The networked knowledge has become the primary form of knowledge in this big data era. Due to the internet connections, collective generation and distribution of knowledge became possible. In particular, large-scale collaboration in epistemic projects requires the philosophical scrutiny. In this article, I investigate the social epistemology of Wikipedia as an attempt to deal with various epistemological questions raised by the networked knowledge. First, I ask whether the Wikipedia community counts as a new epistemic subject and whether its documents are the testimony. It is claimed that parts of Wikipedia documents are the collective testimony of the Wikipedia community. Second, after examining the reliability of Wikipedia, it is claimed that although it is overall reliable, active reading training is required. Third, it is argued that the policies for making Wikipedia more accurate might be not compatible with the ideal of epistemic democratization. Finally, this paper concludes that not only the exchange of information but that of reasons is necessary for our networked society being a democratic, sustainable community.
