21세기의 신기술들은 인간에게서 권한을 박탈하고 비인간 알고리즘의 권한을 강화하고 있다. 본 논문에서 나는 이러한 현실에서 가장 희소성을 갖는 것은 타인과 공감할 수 있는 힘을 가진 인간이라는 것을 보이고자 한다.
이를 위해서 첫째, 나는 18세기에 이러한 점을 강조한 데이비드 흄의 사상을 살펴볼 것이다. 흄은 인간이 타인을 이해하고 세계와 교섭하는 가장 근본적 능력을 공감력이라 보았다. 나아가 이와 같은 공감을 위해서는 상상력이 필수적이며 이러한 상상에 기반을 둔 공감 능력 때문에 도덕이 작동할 수 있다고 보았다. 이 글에서 나는 이와 같은 흄의 사상이 오늘날 인성교육에 던져주는 메시지가 무엇인지를 짚어보기로 하겠다.
둘째, 인공지능 로봇에 대한 감정부여 문제와 맞물려 있는 윤리적 문제를 살펴볼 것이다. 미래사회는 상상력이 중요시되지만 상상을 통한 공감이 잘못 작동함으로써 인공지능 로봇에 대한 의인화와 함께 현실도피와 중독의 문제를 우리는 우려하지 않을 수 없다. 감정을 해독하고 적절한 반응을 하는 로봇의 개발 가능성만으로 로봇이 인간의 서사구조의 정상적인 파트너가 될 수 있다고 생각하는 것은 문제가 있다는 점을 보이겠다. 나는 인공지능 로봇에 대한 의인화가 잘못된 이유는 인공지능과 우리와 서사구조가 다르기 때문이라는 점을 보이고자 한다.
New technologies of the 21st century can deprive human beings of authority and strengthen the powers of inhuman algorithms. In this paper, I show that the most valued thing in this century is a human being with the power to sympathize with others. I look at the ideas of David Hume, who emphasized this point in the 18th century. Hume thinks of sympathy as the most fundamental ability of humans to understand others and to commune with the world. Furthermore, he claims that imagination is essential for such sympathy, and that morality works because of the sympathetic power. In this article, I examine how Hume's idea sheds light on today’s humanity education. Second, I look at the ethical problems associated with the issue of attributing emotions to artificial intelligence robots. In the future society, imagination is important, but we cannot help but worry about the problem of addiction as well as the personification of the artificial intelligence robot due to the misapplication of sympathy through fictional imagination. I criticize the idea that robots can be a normal partner of human narrative structure only by the possibility of creating a robot that decodes emotions and respond appropriately. I argue that the reason why the anthropomorphism of artificial intelligence robots is wrong is that we have different narrative structures from them.
