Neo-Eklektizismus: auf der Suche nach einer Ästhetik für das 21. Jahrhundert

The author proposes a new aesthetics for the 21st century: "neo-eclecticism." While the postmodern constructs, serves, or steals from the modern, 21st-century neo-eclecticism uses contemporary technologies for nostalgic or retrogressive purposes. Its main characteristic is the restoration of a dreamed idyll. Neo-eclecticism is a global aesthetics which supplies no universal truths and no single rule of style: in an increasingly formalized society, individuals remain the only means of enforcement for their own style, even if it is only virtual.
