Résumé
Le propos de cette étude est de montrer comment les sémioticiens de ligne française ont contribué, surtout au Brésil, à produire des connaissances sur les discours sociaux. Lors de précédentes études, nous avons montré que l’une des préoccupations majeures des sémioticiens latino-américains était d’expliquer les processus de signification de l’homme et de la société dans leurs pays. Selon nous, la cause en revient à deux questions principales : d’une part, le paradigme dans lequel s’inscrivent la théorie et la méthodologie de la sémiotique ; d’autre part, les conditions d’accueil et de développement de la sémiotique au Brésil et plus généralement en Amérique latine. Trois parties composent notre article : dans la première partie, nous montrons que les relations de la proposition sémiotique avec la société, avec l’histoire et la culture sont préalablement données, en raison du paradigme théorico-méthodologique de la sémiotique et de son projet analytique. Nous y soulignons également que la sémiotique n’implique ni les excès du formalisme qui nie l’histoire, ni ceux de l’idéologisme qui ignore l’intégration entre la réalité sociale et l’organisation linguistique ; dans la deuxième partie, nous traitons des conditions d’accueil de la sémiotique au Brésil et en Amérique latine ; enfin, dans la troisième partie, nous présentons deux exemples brésiliens de ces études de société.
Abstract
In this study, the aim is to show how semioticians who follow the French perspective, especially in Brazil, have contributed towards a greater understanding about social discourses. In previous studies, we pointed out that one of the main concerns of Latin-American semioticians is to explain the processes of human signification as well as their societies and countries. In our perspective, this is so because of two central matters: on the one hand, because of the paradigm in which semiotic theory and methodology is placed, on the other hand, because of the reception and developmental conditions of semiotics in Brazil and in Latin America in general. This article is organized in three parts: in the first, we show that the relations of the semiotic proposal with society, history and culture are given beforehand, due to the theoretic-methodological paradigm in which semiotics is inserted and to its analytical project, and we highlight that semiotics does not fall within the excess of formalism that denies history, nor does it fall within ideologism that ignore the integration between social realty and linguistic organization; in the second part, we analyze the reception conditions of semiotics in Brazil; in the third part, we provide two examples of these society studies undertook in Brazil.
