- Abstract
The conference ‘Human rights and nursing’ held in Copenhagen on 8 June under the auspices of Nursing Ethics and the International Centre for Nursing Ethics (ICNE) of the university of Surrey, Guildford, UK, attracted some 50 people and was generally acclaimed as a success, both in content and style. Discussion forums replaced the usual lecture format. Three people received the Human Rights and Nursing Awards given by ICNE for the first time: Christine Schmitz from Germany for her work with Médecins Sans Frontières; Karla Schefter from Germany for establishing and running a hospital in Afghanistan; and Glenda Wildschut from South Africa for her work with victims of violence, trauma and torture.
