Abstract
The paper discusses the concept of utility.Classical utilitarianism holds the “mental-stateaccount” that individuals try to realize only feelingsof satisfaction (mental states). Those that hold the``informed-desire account'' think that individuals careonly about the realization of the etxramental statesof affairs they wish. According to this position itis not necessary that the satisfaction of a desirewill be experienced. Mental states are not in everycase important. Which account expresses whatindividuals really evaluate as useful? This questionis essential to the utilitarian because that what isreally desired provides him with the basis of what ismorally demanded.
