Hallward, however, tends to posit a telos to this process of subtraction or extraction; it has as its end an adequate knowledge of being and a form of being-at-one-with being (90).
They write, “It is a question of a model that is perpetually in construction or collapsing, and of a process that is perpetually prolonging itself, breaking off and starting up again. No, this is not a new or different dualism. … We invoke one dualism only in order to challenge another. We employ a dualism of models only in order to arrive at a process that challenges all models.” Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari (1980, p. 31, 1987, p. 20).
Hallward makes this rather striking claim: “There is no more an interactive relation between this virtual or composing power and its actual or composed result than there is between a given set of genes and the organism that incarnates them” (52). See also p. 79.
