Abstract

The aim of this essay is that of offering a description of Catholic reactions to the Kantian philosophy at the end of the 18th century. On one side it illustrates the main reasons which led the Catholic world to reject the critical philosophy as extremely dangerous for its faith. On the other side it focuses on the motivations of the first Kantian Catholicism: the importance of Kant's moral philosophy in order to penetrate the deepest truths of the Catholic religion, as well as the importance of the method of transcendental critique in order to preserve them from materialistic and atheistic objections.
