Abstract

“From Hegel to Marx and Back - Two Sketches of a Normative Ontology of the Human Life-Form.” This article clarifies and compares two theoretical approaches to a normative or evaluative ontology of the human lifeform by the mature Hegel and the young Marx. More exactly, it looks into the ways in which the ideas of recognition and concrete freedom figure in the thinking of the two authors, explicitly in Hegel and more implicitly in Marx. It turns out that Marx’s conception is closer to Hegel than may seem or he himself may have been aware of, but also that Marx’s ontology is in crucial ways poorer than Hegel’s.
