Mingdao Chenghao(1032-1085) has played a great role to establish the new theory of the world and human nature in Confucianism. He insists that there is a metaphysical and universal law called Tian-li through the endless becoming of all things. Tian-li is purely good. But some states of affairs or situations are good or bad. From this context he points out that all goodness or badness is Tian-li. And according to the endowment of Qi, there are some differences in his or her characteristics. The statement like “Badness also has to be called human nature.” represents these differences. Mingdao who follows Confucius and Mencius indicates that all human beings have good virtues inherently. The representative virtue, i.e. Ren[仁] is Tian-li. For example, vital energy of spring⋅a fish swimming in a pond⋅a little running and singing chicken⋅beating pulse and lovely warm-hearted mind, these are the revelation of Ren as the universal law through the process of beings-becoming and values- manifestation. the difference between ‘Is’ and ‘Ought’ or fact and value is going to be melted into the horizon of the whole ‘Oneness’. So called “Wan-wu-yi-ti[萬物一體]” has its practical meaning in this procedure of ‘Oneness’ beyond ‘Otherness’ or ‘Objectiveness’.
