본 글은 생태학적 자아의 정립과 생태학적 감수성의 증진을 위한 교육 방안에 대해 탐색한 것이다. 오늘날의 생태학적 위기는 세계관의 문제임과 동시에 생태학적 감수성의 문제와도 관련이 있기 때문에 우리는 이를 극복하기 위해 생태친화적인 생태학적 자아를 정립함과 동시에 생태학적 감수성을 증진하는 데 진력해야 한다. 전체론적 세계관을 바탕으로 하는 생태학적 자아는 무한한 생태학적 상상력을 발휘하여 자연에 대해 인지적ㆍ정서적으로 민감하게 반응하며 자연의 아름다움과 신비로움을 식별할 수 있다는 점에서 생태학적 감수성을 지닌 자아다.
생태학적 감수성을 증진하는 교육은 생태학적 상상력을 키우는 교육, 생명을 사랑하고 존중하는 태도를 기르는 교육, 공감적 의식과 이해를 고양하는 교육, 심미적 감수성을 증진하는 교육을 지향하며, 이러한 생태학적 감수성을 증진하는 데는 서사적 접근 방법과 자연체험 학습 방법이 가장 적합하다. 이 두 가지 교수학습 방법은 인간과 자연의 유기적 관계, 과정과 맥락, 직접적이고 감각적인 자연체험을 중시한다는 점에서 생태학적 감수성 증진에 적합하다고 할 수 있다.
그러므로 생태학적 감수성의 증진 교육은 자연친화적인 태도와 자연의 아름다움을 평가할 수 있는 능력을 길러주고, 궁극적으로는 인간 사회의 발전과 지구공동체의 보전에 크게 이바지할 것이다.
This paper explores the establishment of ecological self and education for promoting ecological sensitivity. We must establish the ecological self, and promote ecological sensitivity in order to solve this current ecological crises, because ecological crises are matters of worldview and issues related to ecological sensitivity. An ecological self based on holistic worldview has ecological sensitivity, in that ecological self can present imaginations, have a cognitively and emotionally sensitive responses about nature, and appreciate the beauty and mistery of nature. Education for promoting ecological sensitivity aims at promoting an ecological imagination, an attitude of love and respect about life, empathetic consciousness and understanding, and aesthetic sensitivity. And the most appropriate teaching and learning methods in these educations are the narrative and nature learning experience. These approaches focus on organic relationships between man and nature, processes and contexts, and direct, sensual experiences in nature. Therefore, education for promoting ecological sensitivity will cultivate the nature-friendly attitude and capacity of aesthetic appreciation about nature, ultimately contribute to the development of human society and preservation of global community.
