라무스의 교수법이 교과기반 교육과정의 발달에 미친 영향

The Influence of Ramism on the Development of Subject-based Curriculum

교과기반 교육과정은 역사적으로 학교교육에서 가장 큰 영향력을 행사해온 교육과정 중의 하나다. 이 연구는 근대 교과기반 교육과정이 역사적으로 어떤 과정을 거쳐 탄생하고 발전되어 왔는지를 라무스의 사상과 그의 계승자들이 끼친 영향을 중심으로 고찰한다. 라무스는 16세기 이전까지 거의 행해지지 않던 새로운 교수법의 창안을 통해 새로운 교육체제를 구축하였다. 라무스 프로젝트는 케커만, 알스테드, 코메니우스 등에 의해 더욱 정교하고 확실하게 계승 발전되었다. 이들에 의해 지식의 분할에 의한 교과의 명확한 구분, 교과서 제작, 엄격한 시간표, 면학풍토, 시험 등을 위주로 하는 근대적인 학교체제가 본격적으로 발전되었다. 이런 라무스의 교수법이 호응을 얻고 성공할 수 있었던 것은 17세기에 발달하기 시작한 상업분야와 행정업무 수행 등에 필요한 실용적 지식에 대한 수요와 프로테스탄트들이 공유했던 백과전서적 지식 중시의 전통이 중요한 시대적 배경으로 작용하였다. 현대에 와서 교과기반 교육과정은 시험제도와 결합하여 더 견고한 지위를 지켜오고 있지만, 학교교육을 왜곡시키는 한계를 보이기도 한다. 오늘날 시대의 변화를 담보할 수 있는 교육과정에 관한 논의는 교과기반 교육과정에 대한 비판적 검토에서부터 시작되어야 한다.

The subject-based curriculum, which has most widely adopted in school education, has maintained its solid framework despite various educational reforms. I consider how this curriculum has historically been invented and developed based on Ramism and post-Ramism. Ramus established a new education system through the invention of a new teaching method that was rarely practiced until 16th century. The Ramus Project was developed more precisely and clearly by Keckermann, Alsted and Comenius. They have developed a modern school system that focuses on the clear discreteness of subject materials by the division of knowledge, making textbook, strict timetable, working hard climate, exam, etc. This development of Ramism and post-Ramism was an important setting in the 17th century in which the tradition of encyclopedic knowledge and the demand for practical knowledge needed to be developed in the commercial field and administration. Subject-based curriculum, which has maintained a stronger status in combination with the examination system since the 20th century, is causing side effects that distort school education. The discussions on curriculums that can cover changes in today s times should begin with a critical review of subject-based curriculum.
