ABSTRACT

The chapter addresses the contemporary issue of fake news, which is taken in the context of the decline of press in the 21st century. It exposes the need to rehabilitate the fourth estate so that journalism will not become obsolete. Used in the critique are positions made by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as regards fake news, and the concepts of nominalism, fact, and critical realism of Jacques Maritain, a 20th century philosopher.
