1 A brief note on p. 29 alludes to H. Schreckenburg's Würzburg dissertation ▵ρ⋯μα: Vom Werden der Griechischen Tragödie aus dem Tanz (1960); but it gives no hint that the first part of this dissertation has demolished the idea, not without importance in Snell's book on Aeschylus of 1928, that δρ⋯μα as applied to plays originally meant ‘Handlung’. Schreckenburg's work seems not to have been noticed in England; it is admirably reviewed by H. Patzer in Gnomon xxxvii (1965), 118f.
